Easy start, all the features
Bought this a couple months ago. Have used it for volunteer work repainting fire hydrants. Runs the power tools and a small air compressor with no problems. Ran it in parallel with my iGen2200 during break-in, but it handles the load by itself now with no problem. Quiet, even when not in Eco mode. Really handy during temporary power outages,
Great Features and Performance
I purchased the iGen 2600 to use for temporary power in case of a utility outage. I've had it for about month. It was packed well. Studied the manual which was clearly written and easy to follow with respect to setup, operation, and maintenance. It included exploded views with parts lists, schematics and specifications. I opened the maintenance cover to view the quality of both components and assembly. All looked good and component parts seemed to be robust. I then added oil and fuel following the startup procedure and then started the generator. Initially it ran a little rough which could have been debris from manufacture in the fuel system or possibly an air bubble in the fuel system. In diagnosing, I found that the spark plug gap was a bit off so I set it to the exact specification called out in the manual. I ran the unit over several hours throughout the month loading it to various levels and changing loads. This included various types of loads including multiple motors including a vacuum cleaner, sump pump, and electric lawn maintenance tools. I was impressed that even with multiple motors running I was able to start another without noticing any lugging. You couldn't tell the difference in the startup from when powered from primary power. The generator motor quickly would speed up in an effortless manner. I repeated these tests in varying combinations without issue. After running for a total of about 6 hours, I changed the oil to see if it appeared to have any debris from manufacture or otherwise. It seemed perfectly clean and uncontaminated. Considering my experience thus far, I would recommend this generator.
Awesome little generator
Everything you need is in the box even screwdriver to remove cover. Oil funnel screws in, is clear plastic and has a rubber seal. This made putting oil in a breeze. and no mess. Filled with gas, set to choke, pulled cord one time and it was running. I like the digital display. Currently running the 5 hour break in. Unit seems well made. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this generator.
tandom power from 2 iGen2500
purchased not only one but two iGen2500 generators for the purpose of parallel operation. with the ease of starting and connecting with the parallel cord camping or any other operation will be a cinch. quiet operation after starting and the digital readout is a terrific addition to the generator.
Powerful little generator, quality control issues
After much research into which suitcase size generator had the best options, performance, decibel level, and price point I came to the conclusion that the Westinghouse iGen2500 fit that bill. This model is the same size as most 2000 surge/1700 run size generators, but this one performs at 2500 surge/2200 run capability. It also has some handy digital monitoring that most small generators don't. My concern was that a number of reviewers on various sites reported receiving damaged units from the factory, specifically broken spark plugs and spark plug caps. I reside in Canada and would have ordered from a Canadian supplier to simplify the return process (in case this was needed), however the only Canadian retailers for this generator, Home Depot Canada and Amazon.ca, had no stock and had no known restock date. So, hoping I would not need to submit a return I ordered one from Home Depot USA who had the best U.S price I could find, but required a trip to the U.S to pick up as they will not ship to Canada. To my dismay the unit I received was damaged. The spark plug was cracked, and the engine shut-off switch (behind the front panel) was broken. The spark plug was no big deal, but the kill-switch repair would have involved major disassembly, so it had to be returned, which meant a return trip to the border, as Home Depot would only cover return shipping within the U.S. and UPS could not figure out how to charge me just the difference. Home Depot handled the return very quickly. By the time all this took place, I discovered stock of this item was available in Canada thru Amazon.ca again so I was able to re-order the item within Canada. The second unit arrived with some serious crud/sediment in the gas tank, and what looked like small rust spots and staining on the inner gas tank walls that required numerous flushes to clear, but no physical damage was evident. I decided to take a chance that the crud appeared since the factory run-up and hope a good rinsing will prevent any further issues. It appears to have a small inline fuel filter that should catch any remaining sediment, and can be replaced if required. After careful break-in it seems to be operating as well as I'd hoped, and is able to run numerous tools and produce the expected 2500/2200 watts. The digital monitoring is very nice, cycling thru the various information modes and keeping me notified of all the important data regarding its operation. A friend who works in construction and uses numerous of the expensive "H" variety generators confirms this unit is as quiet as their red units, which is supposedly where the bar has been set. So despite the initial quality control issues, I will give it a 4 star rating for now, hoping the initial purchase experiences don't reflect the longevity I hope to get out of this generator, to be used as my supplemental RV power supply. Here's hoping Westinghouse reads this and corrects the problems coming out of the factory so others can enjoy their fine product without the hassles of returns and having to deal with these sorts of issues in a brand new unit.
Hi Ciscoz, We appreciate the time you took to leave such a detailed review of your experience! We're very sorry to hear about the incident with the shipping troubles between Canada and the U.S. and apologize about any inconveniences it may have caused you. We understand it may have been frustrating, but we're happy to hear that you were able to get it resolved properly. It is very normal to see sediment in the fuel tank as that is a byproduct of the assembling process. It sounds like you were able to properly flush it out and get it started without a hitch. After all is said and done, we're very glad that you are enjoying your new iGen2500. Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we will definitely keep it in mind for any future improvements we may implement in the future. Once again, thank you for selecting Westinghouse as your top choice for portable power! Have a great day!
Super quiet and fuel efficient
I bought this last month and just used this past weekend. I filled fuel only 1/4 full and ran tv, hotspot and satellite for almost 6 hrs. In eco mode this thing is so quiet and very fuel efficient. Also after extensive research this has better ratings than the other “red brand”. I highly recommend it
A WELL THOUGHTOUT PACKAGE FOR SMALL POWER
JUST UNBOXED IT A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO AND AM PLEASANTLY PLEASED WITH THE ENTIRE PRODUCT....I PURCHASED IT FOR TWO REASONS....FIRST....TO RUN THE A/C ON MY RV.....WHICH IT HANDLED WITH EASE... THE SECOND REASON WAS BECAUSE IT WAS BILLED AS HAVING A 3 YEAR WARRANTY...........I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO FIND THAT I SHOULD HAVE READ WITH MORE ATTENTION AS THE THREE YEAR PART ONLY PERTAINED TO PARTS.....MY HOPE IS THAT IT IS WELL MANUFACTURED TO THE POINT THAT I WON'T NEED ANY REPLACEMENT PARTS........
Great value!
Just received the 2200/2500 and I’m especially happy with all the parameters it monitors and provides indication for. The noise level was a bit higher than expected with the efficiency mode turned off. When the switch in turned on the noise level drops to a much more tolerable level. Overall can’t wait to put in in service at the campsite.
AS EXPECTED
Recieved promptly, and was able to unbox and set-up in 10 minutes. The generator started with the first few pulls and ran great. The sound level is very quiet, better than I expected. Only ran it for 2 hours so far but it has meet my expectations.
Awesome Features for the Price
I purchased this iGen2500 generator last week and received it yesterday. It arrived on time and in good shape. Opened the box and the product was packaged very secure and organized. Simple basic instructions easy to read. Added the oil put in the gas and it started right up. Mostly purchased this for Texas seasonal use (hot all the time) to run a box fan and basic electrical needs when away from land line power and weather emergency use plus its small portability and long run time. Compared to my other generator that is 4 times larger (size wise), way heavier and extremely loud (louder than a running lawnmower) this little blue guy iGen generator is worth it. I did wish this iGen had a fuel shut off valve. Cant complain about the price and the 3 year warranty plus I like the fact it has a fuel gauge. Should work very well for my needs. *** One thing to note is that I do run my gas generators and gas powered water transfer pumps on ethanol free gas (no gunk build up in fuel lines or engine), run them periodically (every couple of months) with a small load and would use the fuel shut off to stop the generator engine. This would flush the fuel line of fuel and this helps keep the fuel lines clean and help the generator start up on the first pull every time.
