Nice Features!

I purchased this to use with my RV. I normally camp where I have electric and water hookups, but this summer I’m going to a location without hookups. The unit is nice because I can carry it with one hand and it has a nice digital display on the front.

Major issues with my iGen2500

I bought this unit in November 2019, but didn't immediately use it. I just went to use it yesterday (September 2020) for a PG&E PSPS and found out that the fuel cap doesn't fit??? I thought that it was odd that it didn't come attached to the unit, and now I know why. They must have known that there was a defect to begin with (likely with the fuel tank) but still shipped out the unit! The threads on the fuel tank are very rounded, whereas the threads on the fuel cap are very sharp and defined. I needed to use the generator to keep the refrigerator running, so I just set the cap on top so that nothing could get into the tank while the unit is running. During use, I also found out that the Power Output gauge does not work. So far, I'm extremely unhappy with the quality of this unit. I filed a case and will see how Westinghouse customer service handles this issue.

Nice unit

I just bought this unit. Readout display is nice. Fuel level indicator is useful. Generator is quiet. This is good enough for emergencies. With loss of power I can charge any sensitive electronics because of the low total harmonic Distortion rating. Another reason for getting this generator was to power my fish aquarium so I don’t loose any fish. Hopefully I don’t need to use this generator but having power anytime you need it is priceless.

Review of REPLACEMENT generator

My original iGen2500 developed quite a few small problems during the first 8 hours or so. I got to the point of "enough is enough". The seller arranged a prompt exchange. The replacement unit has only one very small issue, after completing 15 hours of break-in. The service cover, on the side, vibrates and makes a buzzing noise. I had some adhesive backed foam weatherstip material, and cut a couple small pieces to place between the service cover and the plastic case (generator "body"). Problem solved. When under a big load, it is not quiet. But it is less obnoxious than my big open frame generator. The digital display is a big plus. Starts easily with 1 or 2 pulls, even with my arthritic shoulder. If it gives good, reliable service over the long run, I would give it 5 stars.

Serious problems on day one

Although I will update this review if Westinghouse offers a correction to these issues, this generator was so bad right out of the box that I do not want to delay this review. After servicing with oil and fresh gasoline, the generator started right up (four pulls, but that was probably getting fuel to carb). I operated it for a while at no load, both regular and eco modes (which slows idle to conserve fuel) with no problem. But... the generator was not purchased to sit there at no load, so now we get to the problem. Any load at all 'boggs down' and stops the engine. It will do a 300 watt load for about 10 seconds, but a 700 watt load shuts it down almost immediately. Note that it is not an overload, circuit breaker problem. Once it quits it is almost impossible to get started again. If the starter rope has an expected life of 500 pulls I must have used half of them on the first day. To trouble shoot and hopefully having it fix itself, I once again ran the generator at no load for a while but never got to another load test because it stopped itself. Again, this is not due to low oil or an overload condition. Be sure to read all the one-star ratings before buying a Westinghouse portable generator. I can understand the 5-star ratings if the unit works as advertised and I am hoping mine can be fixed... but you should know you are taking a chance of getting a 1. No way was my generator quality checked under load at the factory.

Spark plug lead won't stay on.

Bought this i2500 gen set in October 2020 new. Filled with oil, fuel etc. Read instruction manual. Started and ran for 1/2 an hour. Pulled it out today because of power failure. Started and only ran for a few minutes and stopped. Went through all the trouble shooting and still no joy. Checked spark plug lead and found it had popped off. Reseated then started gen set again, ran for 30 seconds and lead popped off again. How do I fix this problem?

Great Features

Great features when comparing the price to others. Other generators are comparable, but lack the convenient LED display for fuel level and loaded watts. Unit is very quiet. Only negative I have is that the spark plug is a bit tricky to screw in (due to a slight insertion angle) and verify it is completely flush. Only problem I've had and I've loaded the unit to 2000 watts (2kw) and it ran fine. My max load will be 1800 watts, so I considered this enough of a test.

Excellent Inverter Generator

The generator came packaged in perfect condition, with oil and the tools to initiate service. The instruction book was thorough, heavily focused on safety issues, and easy to understand. Initial start-up was easy and successful. The generator was then tested by powering an RV electrical system, to include some higher current-draw items. It performed perfectly, and I am also impressed with the computerized display and the idle function. I would highly recommend this (and have already) to anyone in the market for a 2,000-2,500 watt generator.

Reliable

This is my 3rd IGen2500 and I keep purchasing them because they are reliable to run with low noise and excellent stability. I use them to provide power to my off-the-grid small one-room cabins and I can't say enough good things about the IGen2500. I even prefer them over the same size "H" generators.

Performs as advertised, and good price.

iGEN2500: Meets or exceeds peak power output and noise level specs. Runs my RV's 13.5 kbtu AC unit, including compressor startup surge. Will not run microwave at same time, but so what? Good mid-size generator for RV at this price point. Time will tell how durable it is.
