USES GAS/PROPANE

I LIVE IN LOUISIANA, WE RUN FROM A LOT OF STORMS. WE HAVE A RV AND NOW HAVING A GENERATOR THAT USES GAS AND PROPANE WILL BE A GOD SEND. WE GO THRU TOWNS WITH OUT OF GAS SIGNS FREQUENTLY DURING STORMS. SO HAVING A/C IN 98-100 DEGREE WEATHER IS A BLESSING. WE ARE ELDERLY AND CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT LIKE WE USE TO.

Great Features

I got this model because of the dual fuel options. Having ability to hook up propane has added a great feeling of security. I primarily purchased to run my mom’s oxygen condenser during outages. It’s perfect having that extra margin of available fuel.

Getting ready for Hurricane Season

We bought this to be prepared for hurricane season in south Alabama. The only thing we noticed was the oil fill plug/dipstick is made of plastic and it was hard to rethread it into the metal oil fill spout. It started with the first pull of the cord!!

Perfect for my needs

After a few power outages lately and using the next door neighbors small generator I thought I would get one of my own. After looking at the reviews I went with the Westinghouse and am happy with my purchase. Setup is easy and it started right up on first pull. Had a chance to test everything out and it seems to work as advertised. Gives me more power than I had hoped for and seems to run for a long time on a tank of gas. Should be prepared with out next power outage.

Perfect for my needs!

I bought this in preparation for hurricane season. Powers my 1HP well pump (most important) and lights, internet, OTA TV's, and refrigerators in main house and guest house. Basic needs covered. I had a 10,000-watt generator, but it was way too heavy to move around and used much more gas. I have a 200-gallon outdoor propane tank for a gas fireplace which makes the duel full feature great in case of extended power outages.

Dual power options are great!

We just bought three of these, and I haven't used mine yet. So, I can't speak on the performance of this yet. I will update after I use it. I am excited that I can use either gas or propane. One thing I didn't like though was that the big yellow warning tag that was on the other two generators we purchased was not on this one. That is dangerous to not have the warning tag on here, even though I know not to use it in the house.

Model WGen5300DFv Generator

I have looked a a large number of generator brands with many different configurations. The two most important features were duel fuel and a AC/CA 120/240V 30A outlet. This generator has both of those features along with many others. The price was well in the range of our budget. It was clear that this generator was the perfect fit to provide emergency power to our small rural are condo. We will eventually have the wiring installed so we will be able to provide power anywhere in the condo as needed. I'm ready to give a shake down.

Lifesaver during Texas Artic Freeze

Purchase this product in February 2021 during the Texas Arctic Freeze. This generator has the ability to run on propane or gasoline. That is a great option. We used the propane option to run lights, a refrigerator and a portable heater. When we ran out of propane, we switched to gasoline.

Excellent feature set, quality build & details

Comparison shopped all the common brands from several different retailers, and settled on the 5300DFv as having the right combination of value and features. It was hard to find as home generators are a hot item in California this season. Set up was easy, started on the 2nd pull on gas, and did the break-in run of an hour with no load. On board voltage, frequency, and total/this-run hour meter is very handy. Then shut down, restarted and checked 240 volt, also good. Shut down again, restarted in 120 and ran several different loads for about 10 minutes. Slight RPM stutters as loads came online, but immediately stabilized. My only quibble is that the packaging is retail, and did not fair well during shipping. Box has minimal padding, and arrived with several torn spots, and had obviously been dropped and dragged by handlers. Am fortunate that damage to unit was limited to one small dent in frame on bottom corner (I can live with that, I'm sure I'll do worse over the coming years). Aside from a scuff on top, all else seems fine so far. Before filling and starting, did a cursory 'work around' with a set of wrenchs and sockets looking for any loose fittings, none of the sub-assemblies I could reach seemed loose, although a couple of final assembly bolts did need a 1/2 turn of snugging up. Welds and paint are pretty good, much better than some I've seen. Wheels have an outer rim of rubber (not just hard cast plastic) and feet are hard rubber with concave undersides - they 'hold' the smooth concrete floor and keep unit from walking. If you can find it for a competitive price, then this seems a very good value. One last note, this is not a particularly quiet unit, more appropriate for work site or ranch than campground or residential neighborhood. If you need it at your house and neighbors are close, you'll want to build a quiet box for it.

Exactly what I was looking for

I purchased this duel fuel generator a couple of weeks ago and gave it a test for the first time today. It seems to be perfect for our backup power needs. It handled the refrigerator and a small freezer chest easily. We were also able to use our portable fans at the same time. I’m confident it will get us through any short term power outages that may happen.
