I've purchased other canned roast beef products before I bought this product. I wanted to base my opinion of this "meat" product on it's own merit and not in comparison to what I've had before. I bought this mostly as an impulse buy, thinking that it would make for an easy beef stew or beef gravy for mashed potatoes.. Upon opening the can, I smelled it to see what I was getting into. The smell was not offensive but it was not appetizing either. The appearance was a can of grey "meat" and a light grey broth. Minimal fat was observed. I poured the can into a bowl and broke it up alittle with a fork to see if it was really meat, the color was grey through out the product, tried a small bite cold. Texture was that of a more rubbery mouth feel, lacking any beef flavor what so ever. The broth was tasteless also. Warmed the bowl in the microwave for 60 seconds and tried the product again. Same results for flavor, texture, mouth feel, smell. I used the contents of the bowl to make a beef gravy using my tried and try recipe. I was extremely disappointed in the results. Based upon my experience in meat product industry and the list of ingredients, I have a fairly good idea on how this product is made. In my opinion this is a very poor quality beef product. I used two of the four cans for my evaluation and will be returning the other two. If Sam's will not take them back, I will donate them to a food pantry. I would not feed this to my family and will not be purchasing again. I do not recommend buying this product.
