We recently purchased a Westinghouse 5300 and it performed perfectly during power outages here in So. Cal. But, we needed more coverage to complete our disaster preparedness plan so we bought a second 5300 generator to really give our family the protection and peace of mind. This one's Dual Fuel - so Propane and Gas and that for sure gives us additional options. Feature packed and simple to use - great small generators.

After months of research and debate I chose the Westinghouse 5300DVF ... And I am happy I did! The gen is everything i need to insure i can keep all my essentials running in an emergency. The dual fuel feature allows me to keep both gas and propane fuel on hand for use during an outage. I highly recommend this unit.

Good build quality. Solid frame and this model has a lot of bang for the buck. Easy set up and straightforward to use. I will be using this generator to power a 1hp deep well pump. I plugged a power hungry circular saw in it and the noise barely increased. This is not obnoxiously loud, which is a big plus.

current runs a 100 gallon reef tank, 1000 gallon goldfish pond, 2 fridges, water heater, 9000 btu mini split, a small window unit, water heater and all my lights. And i can also use one other major appliance one at a time. ie dryer oven stove etc. everything but my 5 ton ac unit which would require closer to 16kw. Love the dual fuel option. I can run forever off a 30lb propane tank and not worry bout gunking up the carbeurator for next year. Run gas just when i need the extra 500 watts when trying to cook and clean clothes etc, otherwise propane is great. live in southeast tx with high humidity and hurricanes 2 of which hit near me. power was out for 5 days both times. generator ran solid. Only wish it had electric start for the wife, but its not too bad pull starting. usually within 2 pulls. removed the bonded jumper between ground and neutral like its says too in manual if supplying your breaker box. Meters shows 237 volts most of the time at 57-63 htz. I did not try to run computers or tvs on this one. Thinking of getting a small inverter genny at a later date for those items. Phone chargers and laptop chargers worked just fine though. Sure tvs would of been fine but did not take the chance.

Shopped around a lot, looking for a portable generator that would run 2 refrigerators, furnace, and some misc appliances and this was by far the best value-for-money. Have not started the unit yet, but so far its been easy to unpack and assemble (put on wheels and padded "feet"). The footprint is perfect for storage in my garage and I really like the dual-fuel feature. Also very thorough operating instructions.

The 240v output on this generator makes it quite simple to hook up and feed your main panel during outages, and the power output is more than enough for my 2300 square foot house. The option to run on propane means that I don't have to worry about a gummed up carburator or fuel system when this generator is needed! The derates due to propane usage coupled with my 6,500ft elevation mean I can only expect this generator to produce ~3,450 continuous running watts, but that was still more than enough for my purposes. I tested this generator by transferring my main panel from grid power to the generator, and running in that configuration for 3.5 hours. I periodically measured current and voltage on both of the hot conductors to calculate load, and I averaged around 1400w for the 3.5 hours. The maximum load I measured was 1750w, which included my primary refrigerator/freezer (inverter driven, so no large inrush), a second full size freezer (22A inrush measured), all indoor lights, two ceiling fans, natural gas furnace (mainly the fan), a convection gas oven (manly the fan), and everything normally plugged into outlets including a couple of computers. The largest imbalance I saw was 6.2A on one side of my panel and 3.3A on the other, but the generator was still able to hold voltages relatively even at 121.6v and 122.2v from each hot to neutral. I had the propane tank on a scale during this test, and it used ~6lbs of propane, which works out to a burn rate of approximately 1.7lb/hr at 1,400w (40% of my rated output at elevation), so it should run my house for nearly 12 hours on a standard 20lb propane tank.

Generator has adequate dual circuit selection of 240/120volt 30amp/20 amp with great choice of dual fuel use. Propane choice is exceptional allowing a clean burn, no gunking up, especially with the choices of unleaded fuel supplied today. added wheel assembly and enhancement for easy mobility. Generation functions well under load couldn't be a better buy at the price. Would recommend this purchase for just in case needs during storm outages and portable uses.

Very happy with generator, when I looking to purchase a generator this one had a high rating now I understand why. The easy start quiet running is a seller, the duel fuel is plus for me. Being 63, Westinghouse and electric went together growing up. This is why I tried this generator, now I'm glad I did.

This generator has all the features I needed as a backup power for outages. When used with propane it takes a times to start the generator. Sound level is a little high from inside the house. The output power is good and stable. It's easy to roll out using the handle and wheels. You will need to prop up the generator to attach the wheels and fixed stand.

I purchased this generator based on all the excellent reviews and because of the Westinghouse name. I'm very happy with my purchase! I keep this generator as a standby in case of power outages, and run the generator on propane to avoid all the hassles with gasoline storage. This thing starts right up every time - I test-run it frequently. No electric start needed. The generator is very well designed (in the USA) and I'm very happy with the quality even though it's not manufactured in the USA. I'm an electrical engineer by profession, and I recognize quality when I see it. This unit is much more quiet than any of the competition I've owned, and it runs very smoothly even with a significant load. My recommendation is to get at least one of the Westinghouse models now before rising inflation eats away at this great value! This purchase is very smart considering how US electrical grid infrastructure is becoming ever more vulnerable and rickety. Protect yourself with a quality backup generator.
