[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We move duo to a brand new home with a large patio. It needed something, so we searched got the perfect Pergola. We found it with Sommerville! From ordering to receiving it everything went perfectly. It took my husband and son 5 1/2 hours to assemble and put it up. It looks beautiful. We also love that there is a built in electrical outlet.

Our pergola is not only loved by us but by everyone! It really has made our backyard the sanctuary we wanted it to be! The price was absolutely unbelievable!!! We had an electrician rewire our panel and do some under ground electric and it is seamless! The quality is absolutely amazing and we are telling everyone the have to purchase this one! It’s one of those deals that seems too good to be true but it’s totally not! Perfect for pool parties and lounging and has been the best backyard addition for our family!

Only complaint is the directions need to be clearer about orientation of the pieces as we put together certain sections and realized after the fact that pre drilled holes were on other sides etc. also some of the wood was warped and made it difficult to align holes at time. But all in all we’re very happy and pleased with the pergola.

I bought two of these for my back patio. I was able to build and install both by myself. Both went up and were fastened to the concrete in one weekend. I applied a clear weather protectant after install. No damage upon delivery, but some cracks/wood splitting has happened since it was built. Overall, I am happy with them and for the price, would do it again.

We are in arizona so its great for the yard plus gives us some shade when we put corrugated metal sheets over the top that look and work great. Two smaller pieces of wood were slightly damaged but the company sent them straight out to us with no argument so that was good. have to say it really makes the yard look brilliant plus it came with the power unit so we can run electricity to it and from there we have things running like a small sound bar for relaxing to. Its pretty easy to put together, we found assembling the main rafters first helped as we could do it indoors, the only thing is you need two people to help put it together outside with the posts. Also like the plastic bases for the posts to sit on so the water from when it rains doesn't rot the bottoms of them. FYI when they deliver it they just leave it on the driveway, you have to move it yourself and it comes in two boxes.

For the convenience of buying this pergola with all the pieces cut and pretty sanded already for a DIY assembly, as well as it being nice cedar, it truly does hit all the marks. The ambiance is quite beautiful and it is a great addition to our yard. It is pretty easy to assemble with two people. Of course, read your instructions and plan your assembly. It can be easy to confuse your pieces and the perspective in the diagrams so be careful. It took one day to assemble everything. There are a few extra hardware screws and washers included, which is great. You also might need a step ladder to hold up a key piece with a two person team to make it easier to bolt down. As I learned from another reviewer, order a can of matching stain free from Backyard Discovery for the inevitable touchups. I also had a couple of pieces with a chunk broken out or a smash, which were thankfully easy to get replaced and shipped out for free from Backyard Discovery. Also, I found it quite worth it to use a good exterior varnish to protect the pergola. I used the "M" name brand that ends in ""X" of their Spar Urethane Clear Gloss varnish (but make sure it is the oil based version if you use it, as the water based version is not good). Another reviewer said to varnish before assembly, which I realized rather fast that it takes forever, drips everywhere, sticks, creates skin, etc. So I varnished after assembly of all the lower sections except the numerous thin perlin slats that go on top, and got at least one coat on before the pergola spent too long in the sun and rain. I am going to finish two more spar urethane coats this season. Also, I ordered this pergola from Sam's club and it was easy to get service from BD afterwards. For those who might ask, is it worth it? I would say after staging everything around the pergola, such as potted plants and chairs for our yard, it is quite well worth the purchase. I think our photos prove that point. Btw, it did not really need the purlins installed to complete a good look and is perfectly functional without them. Also, we thought at first... would the dark walnut color work? And we soon realized, yes indeed. Enjoy!

The delivery was on the exact date and time as arranged. Good start. The cardboard wrapping around the product (there were two long boxes) was heavy duty thereby protecting the product from shipping damage. There was no damage. That wonderful smell of fresh cedar permeated the room so I new the product was of good exterior quality. When we opened the boxes, it looked like some sort of AI (artificial intelligence) had packed them. A work of art in itself. I began to realize that this pergola package might be of high quality after inspecting the hardware. It was heavy and of high quality, individually labeled and it was all there. There were also paper instructions concerning the assembly which were reasonable but a hair intimidating. But fear not. Here’s the part that blew my mind. They include software by BILT intelligent instructions which you can download on your phone or iPad that show you step by step in a CAD format each step of the way. The pergola turned out fabulously.

I purchased this Pergola to give my backyard a specified space for my patio gathering area. The pergola took my nephew about 4 hours to assemble. There were a couple of boards that were scratched from delivery. I called customer service and they immediately offered me a touch up stain. Two of the boards had a split and they sent out replacements ASAP! Not only is the product prefect for my space but the customer service was the BEST I have encountered.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought the pergola a couple of months ago thru our local sams club. We were soon contacted by backyard discovery. The delivery came earlier than expected l, which was a good thing and then install was within a couple of days. The pergola is sturdy and looks great. We have added shades to the sides and to the top so that we can enjoy it during our hot Texas days as well as cool days. Love it.

We are happy with the pergola. It takes 3 people to put some of it together and it's not an easy task! Strong structure and we added adjustable sun shade and curtains. The coating/stain, however, is an attractant for wasps. They started peeling strips away. And, of course, it attracts wood bees. Other than that we are pleased with the outcome!
