Great Generator for home or RV

I have been shopping for an inverter generator for some time now and looked at all the reviews for this type of generator for my living quarters horse trailer. The Westinghouse iGen 4500 checked all the boxes. It is easy to operate and the digital screen tells you everything you need to know when the generator is operating. Great maneuverability, light weight and quiet.

It's so quiet!!

I did alot of research online, looked alot of different generators. The Westinghouse iGen 4500 was supposed to be the most quiet with the lowest decibel rating, at the best price. When I got it set up and started up, it was obvious I had made a good purchase. (Oh, BTW, my wife thinks the remote start is cool!) We plan to use this with our new RV and plan to do as much remote "boondocking" as possible. This requires a generator strong enough to run the AC but quiet enough for us to sleep. I think we got it!

The xtra power I needed.

Just rec'd today....followed the ez setup, filled with oil, fuel, and connected battery that was fully charged. followed the startup procedure and....as advertised, fired right up, quiet, etc. I am breaking it in with eco on and off with no load. This is replacing a previous smaller output rv ready gen.

Great features but not up to expectations

I bought this to use as both a track and home generator (for a few necessary things when power goes out) and figured 4500 max watts would be sufficient. Unboxing was easy and it was nice that it included a funnel and oil. It was easy to start but my main gripes are that the idle is inconsistent (it surges almost constantly, even with there is no load and nothing plugged in), the display doesn't always show an accurate figure (sometimes shows 0 load/output but items are plugged in and running), and it doesn't seem to be able to handle startup of many things that it should be able to (~1500 watt startup overloads the generator).

Auto choke problem

This generator checked all the boxes for me including wireless starting, quiet, large fuel tank. Because of my extensive research I was well aware of the problem with the auto choke. Since I am capable of fixing it, I went ahead and bought it. Mine did have the problem with the disconnected auto choke wire as well as my connector was broke. After I fixed the connector the generator ran fine. I did the proper break in which includes installing a magnetic oil dipstick and running the generator under various loads drain oil and repeat. The pictures below show the metal particles that were collected by the magnetic dipstick during the break in. Look forward to many years of service.

Initial Review

This is my initial review as I just received the inverter generator and haven't had a chance to really try it out. First impression is that it is a decently made unit but can definitely see why it sells for so much less than comparable Honda or Yamaha units. The plastic side panels showed signed of having been flexed during assembly or shipping and some were scratched. This isn't a big deal as I intend to use the unit to power my travel trailer and it is going to take some wear and tear over time. After adding oil and gas, the engine started up right away using the manual start. Upon starting, it was obvious something wasn't quite right as the engine was running rough and very rich. Upon investigation I discovered that the auto choke control wires had come unplugged in transit. I plugged in the wires but have not had a chance to retest as it's 2am and I don't think my neighbors would appreciate a running generator, no matter how quiet. I will update this review as I put more time and testing into the unit. Overall, I would say Westinghouse could have a great product for the price point if they would improve the quality control at assembly.

New Camper Power Suppy

Bought this last week, at 105lbs, it was larger than expected but starts super easy. Comes with a bottle of oil and a screw-in funnel so be sure to add oil before starting as it comes empty. Funnel worked really well. All in all, a pretty quiet unit with a ton of versatility. Small enough to fit in the back of a small SUV and I can lift it alone but recommend using a helper. It does have handles on the bottom as well as the top.

Had to fix some things out of the box

Put oil and gas in, started right up. Gas gauge did not function out of the box, fuel float sensor was hung up. First day camping with it, lost spark and would not run at all, checked wiring to the coil and found a faulty factory connection. Fixed the plug and all has been well since. A little disappointed it needed work right away for how much I paid for it but overall pretty happy with it.

Quiet and Fuel Efficiency as advertised.

I just received the generator. I was pleased to see the first bottle of oil came with it. Very impressed that it included a special funnel to fill oil and a spark plug wrench. I wondered why there wasn't a 10mm wrench to remove the oil drain plug! Extremely easy starting with the pull cord. I plugged in the travel trailer and ran the AC and refrigerator. It showed between 25 - 50% power load and it ran for 14 hours like advertised. Very quiet. It is a perfect camping generator. The pull handle is genius. However, that makes it very portable. Wonder if they could add a security ring attached to the frame so it can be locked down. Only 4 stars because the gas gauge and all the gas-related information does not work. I was going to review after the warranty was honored but I can't do that until I register for the warranty and I don't get my registration gift if I don't leave a review.
