Easy to start and extremely quiet

I purchased the Westinghouse iGen4500 about three weeks ago and finally got around to setting it up. It's a fairly straight forward process that includes adding oil m, connecting the battery cable quick connect, and adding gas (I choose no ethanol for small engines and have found them to run better). The key fab is a nice option for remote starts, and it also has a push button start, and pull cord back up. It fired up on the first try after I remembered to adjust the fuel switch to the open position. It was so impressed with how quiet it ran, and I was able to carry on a conversation with my wife while standing about five feet away from the unit. I'm expecting the iGen4500 to be my first and last electric generator since it has so many nice features, and I the build quality is impressive.

Easy to set up and use.

Just returned from a camping trip and the iGen4500 did everything that I was hoping that it would do. The remote start was the selling point for me. It was quiet and started right up. It is heavy, but the product description told me that. I am looking forward to many more camping trips!

Everything I had hoped it would be

Would not start right out of the box. Found the choke wire was routed too tight from the factory, so it came unplugged in shipping. I rerouted the wire and plugged it in… Runs absolutely perfect now. The remote start is awesome!!! I waited to give this review so I could use it and see how it did. turns out, it is much more than I expected it would be. I would recommend this product to anyone… In fact, I already have and he just ordered one last week

Perfect for our Travel Trailer

We purchased the iGen 4500 to use for boondocking when we camp in our new travel trailer. We love the weight of this and the handy retractable handle for ease in moving it. The set up and starting it for the first time was extremely easy and user friendly. We looked at other generators and found the price of this coupled with the features to be just what we need. My husband especially likes the remote control starter and the quiet hum when it is running.

So far good

So far, after set up and a 30 min initial run, it’s great. Remote start works well and it VERY quiet. A couple of things I noticed: the unit serial number is not available on the inverter anywhere. I had to cut one of the UPC stickers off the box to put with my records. 2nd: Familiarizing myself with the control panel and actually reading the manual, I notice the graphic depiction of the control panel and pictures were different from the iGen4500 I received. I’m curious as to why the unit I received is different from what is shown & advertised.

Excited to be ready for hurricane season

Very easy set up (I'm a widow and on my own and was concerned about being able to handle it by myself). It's pretty heavy (about 100 lbs.), but I was able to get it out of the box with only a few grunts. The directions were clearly explained for the initial set-up and it even came with the oil needed. I haven't run it yet, but am confident that it'll be exactly what I need.

Tons of features for price point.

I bought this generator specifically to run my sump and refrigerators during power outages. So far it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The design is super sleek, the feature such as remote start are top notch, and the unit is very quiet. Highly recommended.

iGen4500 Portable Generator

We purchased this for an RV at a deer camp. We could not find any other models having such a long list of features. Standout features include digital fuel gauge / runtime remaining / load in wattage / enormous fuel tank and run-time. This replaces a competitive unit that was undersized for the application and did not have half the features yet cost more! I will follow up in 6 months with a number of hours and performance review.

Quality for the price

I think this is as big of a generator you can get and consider it portable. It has a nicely designed quality telescopic handle and 2 grab handles on top. It is an inverter/generator with specified very low harmonic distortion. I figure that most electric merchandise these days are controlled by sensitive electronics and decided it would be prudent to get a unit with cleaner electricity output then a conventional generator supplies. Considering the retail price relative to other known high quality manufacturers, I think the unit overall is a sound purchase for occasional recreational and emergency usage. My only negative criticism is the very common known issue with the automatic electric choke. Cold starting the engine in almost all scenarios requires setting the choke and the choke should be off when the engine starts to run properly. I was anticipating this to be an issue on the unit I purchased and was not concerned about making the repair as there are several detailed videos online that provide instructions. However, I don't understand why this is a ongoing problem and honestly I was close to going with another manufacturer because I felt that this seemingly minor, ongoing unresolved issue may be indicative of several other soon to be exposed operating problems. My choke would not engage upon initial start attempt. The engine would not start unlike others that did start but the choke would not disengage. My problem was the same though as the electronic choke harness was not plugged into it's connector. I suppose time will tell but I will say after having to remove and loosen most of the plastic panels to repair the electric choke issue, the parts and assembly that I could see seem to be quality constructed. Once I corrected the choke the unit fired up right away and has ran great since.

Great for RV use - quiet - remote start!

I need to power a 28' RV for both AC use in Summer and Winter and run the generator all night for my astronomy imaging equipment. I shopped around and listened to various generators and settled on this iGen4500 due to three key features: 1. had to be under 55 dB at 25% load (this unit measured 54 at 25 ') 2. Had to have a remote start (check!) 3. Had to have at least the three year warranty (check!) Bought the unit from Lowes on Jan 22 and picked it up on a Wednesday and loaded up for Florida Keys on Friday. Monday, after reaching Scout Key for the annual Winter Star Party, I added oil and fuel then fired up the iGen4500. The remote worked flawlessly and my genny was the quietest one in it's size class. I built a simply old-style 'tent' over the unit in case of rain and directed the exhaust towards US 1 (always busy 24/7). About 400 astroimagers on the Key and maybe 30 came by to check out my iGen4500. Everyone was impressed and we took dB readings at 20, 35 and 50'. At 50' it was about 52 dB and after some simple noise baffling using the cardboard box and a piece of plywood you cut down the rumble even more! I changed the oil at 19 hrs and though a bit tricky to do without spilling any oil, it wasn't too challenging. Unit ran flawlessly rest of the week. I'll be using it at other dry campling (no power/water/sewer) events throughout 2019 and look forward to enjoying this genny!!
