Holds water, cushions smell moldy
I noticed the box was leaking water. A small amount was in the bottom. I emptied it out turned it on its side and water started pouring from the holes around the sides inside of the box. Emptied out as much as I could but there are still some sloshing around inside. My cushions now have mold on them and smell terrible. This box is on a covered deck so it gets very minimal rain. Very disappointing

Great response from Lifetime
I bought this box and love it. In a very strong storm the back of the box blew off the box and I never found the back. I e-mailed Lifetime and they sent me a new back for the dock box. Although this was not covered by warranty (Acts of nature are not covered). Lifetime sent me a new back to the box. I installed t back correctly and it works like new. Thank yo Lifetime n I originally installed the box on my pier and during a very strong storm the back of the box blew off. Although the box is not covered by warranty, Not covered from the storm, (acts of nature are not covered), Lifetime sent me a new back for the box. Thank you Lifetime A great company.
Made the right decision, but offer a few tips on installation
I did quite a lot of research in selecting this box, comparing a number of alternative manufacturers, designs, colors, and sizes. I made the final selection on this box based upon design strength. Others did not have the metal bracing and hinges. I needed a box that would hold up. In this respect, I am sure I made the right decision. It is very sturdy. Two adults can sit on it without problem (probably three, but I did not try this). It also, looks better than I expected from the pictures. I thought the top would be too dark in contrast to the sides, but it looks great. The instructions are well written and easy to follow, though when printed, a little hard to read without a magnifying glass. There is also a video which is helpful, but runs very fast, so you have to re-run it several times to catch the steps. However, the instructions are not completely accurate in my experience. First the good news -- one adult can put this bin together without help. It does not take two or three people. It does take one who is able to read and follow instructions and use hand tools. Now the bad news -- from the time you open the box and start reading the instructions for the first time, it takes a lot longer than an hour to assemble. I'd allow at least 2 - 3 hours depending on how skilled you are. I could have done it faster if I had known the following: As far as tools, forget the rubber hammer. The plastic is much too sturdy for this to do any good. But, IN ADDITION TO THE TOOLS LISTED, YOU WILL NEED: 1) A drill with both 1/8" (or smaller) and 1/4" bits. The 1/8" is needed to drill pilot holes for screws. I can't see how anyone can get screws started through the tough plastic on the front brace without this. The 1/4" bit is to finish bolt holes that are not completely drilled coming from the factory. There were several of these. The bolts won't go in without redrilling. 2) A rasp or heavy gage file. This is to file edges that don't exactly fit. I found this was the only way I could get the top to close. I tried adjusting the hinges, but I could not get the right side to line up so that it would completely close. I was about to give up when I decided to rasp the right corner holding up the fit. That worked fine. Again the material is very hard and very sturdy. A bit of rasping worked and did not hurt the box's integrity. 3) Both ratchet and box wrenches are needed in the sizes indicated in the instructions. As far as other assembly tips go: I had to put my full body weight onto the right side to get it to pop into position. It took me a while to work up to this level of exertion, worrying that I might break something. The box material is very strong. You can't break it. It also appeared to me that a left and a right side hinge holder was needed, and I got two left side hinges. That caused the top to be just a bit out of line on the right side. There was no mention of this in the instructions. I tried to rotate the hinge to get it to line up, but was unable to make that work. Rasping the front right corner fixed this, but it took me a while to move to this last resort. Though there was some frustration in installation, I am very happy to have this box.
My Third Lifetime Products Storage Box
Theresa, at the Lifetime Store in Clearfield, was great to work with. The assembly instructions were easy to understand and overall the assembly was simple. The alignment of the screw holes in the lower left hinge arm and the side panel were slightly out of alignment, but it was easy to correct. A very solid outdoor storage solution. One of my favorite Lifetime Products!
Cheap, thinly made plastic junk.
Nothing but absolute cheap junk at this point. We bought this deck box thinking it would be similar in quality to some of the Lifetime made folding chairs that we had purchased in years past only to find out they’ve cut back on quality and no longer care to build a good product. The plastic is ao thin that the locking tabs, which were clearly out of spec to begin with, just collapsed while trying to assemble the box walls and floor. This will be the last Lifetimw product we purchase as their quality is clearly waning.

Sturdy, weather proof, and perfect for your patio
I bought this storage bin to hold all our outdoor toys. Balls, inflatable pools, Tonka trucks, camping chairs, sand toys, rakes...all these things have been well protected over 3 years in our yard. My kids climb on it and in it, and it is holding strong.
Great size, but it leaks!
I appreciate how mujch this deck box holds. However, two months after assembly, I discovered the lounge cushions I put in it are mildewed and have mold on them! The box is leaking around the front edge (mainly around lock area) when it rains. It seems to fit together well, but there was about 2 cups of water sitting on top of the cushions and rug inside of the deck box. I now have a large piece of plastic covering it which looks horrible and defeats the purpose of a new deck box.
The deck box is water resistant, but not water proof. If you are storing items inside that need to remain completely dry we do recommend also placing them in plastic bags just to be safe. You can also give our customer service team a call and make sure that the box is assembled correctly to ensure nothing is going wrong. They can be reached at 800-225-3865 or by email at customercare@lifetime.com.
hardware questionable
I like the chest. Just put it together. I watched the YouTube video which was excellent. Just a few comments: The BKW (shorter screws) and the BEV (longer screws) should all be the same length. Why? Because the BEV were so long that I had to add washers to prevent the screws from going out of the side of the top. Furthermore, one length screw would probably be more cost effective for Lifetime and less confusing during assembly for the customer. And a note should be made that the 'nuts' with the locking plastic on the threads should be utilized on the hinge/pin assembly. Otherwise, I assembled this by myself ...with the aid of the video...and the box looks great. I hope it stands up to the over 100 degree heat of New Mexico :)
Outstanding Customer Service
I have purchased 3 of the Heavy-Duty Outdoor Storage Deck Box (130 Gallon). One of the boxes I use for the storage of pool chemicals. Because of the nature of these chemicals, the hinges inside the box started to rust and eventually break. This is not a manufacturing defect and was caused by me because I needed a place to store chemicals. John was kind enough to send me replacement hinges so that I could continue to use the box. I was willing to pay for the new hinges; but he went the extra mile to sending them at NO charge. Lifetime really stands behind their products. They have a customer for life!
Great Outdoor organization!
I have the 130 gallon AND the 80 gallon storage boxes. One for the downstairs deck and one for the upstairs deck. the things keep my cushions, covers and misc outdoor toys corralled and neatly--and DRYLY--hidden away but in east reach. They also provide a handy 'worktop' in each area--kind of like a sideboard in the dining room. I am EXTEMELY happy with these items! And they were easy to put together (though, a small powered screwdriver sure did help!)
