We purchased this fax machine in late January 2019 when our original fax machine needed to be replaced. It was easy to install, and has worked well for us. We rely primarily on email, but some documentation has to be sent and received via fax. Two caveats: 1) It's noisy when it dials out (the screechy modem connection sound I hadn't heard in years) and that's annoying to some people who have nearby offices. 2) The location and angle of the screen is a bit awkward - you can't glance at it and see what it says, you have to bend over the top surface a bit to read the screen. If they redesign the machine I'd suggest either a different angle for the top surface or putting the screen at the bottom of the top surface, above the manual feed tray. I think the first suggestion is the better one.

machine received in good order and put into service on 4/29/13, worked fine for two days. It stopped picking paper out of tray and displayed "no paper" message, tried more/less paper, shuffled paper, cleaned rollers, etc. to no avail. Called service and helpful operator had me adjust paper guides, machine successfully made to copies while still speaking with service. Hung up and returned machine to service ... same problem again..retried all as before. Now it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I use fax extensively in my business, sending and receiving contracts, quotes, etc. and cannot have a machine that only works sometimes. I have 2 other brother fax machines and a brother printer that I'm quite happy with, but something needs to be done about this machine ASAP Sent another email 3 days later, received response to call service again and wait on line to go through the same procedure again. I have now owned this questionable product for ten days and got two days of use. Service seems to be non-existent. I would advise any potential purchaser to carefully consider my experience before ordering this product.

I have 5 small businesses and needed a fax and printer. I kept running down to the corner to run faxes when needed and the color printer I had was always running out of ink, so I was having to buy a lot of ink and I had no need for color. This printer, copier and fax was perfect for me. I've had it now for 2 months and it works great for my needs, it powers right up and provides me with the needed copies and faxes. Easy to set up and use.

I have had my 2840 for 5 months and have 19,000 faxes already. It is very fast-It has a large memory and processes used paper very well. My last brother fax got 180,000 faxes before it died. I hope this one is just as reliable. Sa far it seems to be!!

This printer was my replacement for the intellifax 2820. There is one significant difference between the two. The 2820 allowed the phone to be used as an extension, but not the 2840. When a call is answered by any other phone in the house, and i pick up the 2840 phone, a message saying "phone is in use". This is a killer for me, but maybe not for others. Otherwise it is a clone for the 2820, which served me well for many years. I expect this will also. But with this problem, I will likely not buy brother again.

I bought this unit after reading an e-mail ad from brother. I have space restrictions and the advertised footprint seemed small. The unit is much larger with the paper attachments out... Setup was fast and easy as advertised. The display window is small and hard to read even with max brightness. Print is crisp and the paper handler works well. The unit is now fully setup and operational. Wish I had known about the 2940 before I purchased this dinosaur...

Prior Brother Intellifax machine no longer willing to print. Had to replace it. This one prints nice clear copies. At first I was not able to receive Faxes with this machine, but the telephone company installed a clean line with low noise. I guess the machine will not work with any noise on the line. I called the service department two times and they walked me through the trouble shooting as best they could. They did not know why the machine would not receive faxes on the dedicated fax line but would receive faxes on the voice telephone line.

This Fax machine is excellent value for money, simple to set up and use and it also looks good. I have purchased six so far as replacements for 2920 units, of which I bought 28, and will continue to use Brother fax machines as long as we have a need for faxing.

We purchased the Brother IntelliFax-2840 a few months ago. Although we aren't HEAVY users of the fax machine, we DO rely on it for many specific needs. We replaced our PanaFax UF-585 with this model after doing some extensive research on the internet of various fax machine models, which there are NOT a lot of out there these days. The clarity of the print-outs and the speed of sending and receiving is WONDERFUL! I wish the display window was a bit larger or maybe tilted up more for easier viewing, but it works. Supplies (toner) are very reasonable, as well. Only time will tell if we will CONTINUE to love it, but we sure do right now! :)
