Great fax machine! Our office sends & receives ALOT of faxes each day and it doesn't a great job of keeping up. Our office has 2 of these machines due to being spread out and on multiple floors. The only negative thing about this machine is that it goes through ALOT of toner even with the save toner option is selected. I have not heard a complaint about so far. Would buy another one though!

Recently our Brother Intellifax 2800 that we purchased in 2003 finally died. In view of the fact it had lasted such a long time, we wanted to stick with another Brother product. The Intellifax 2840 we got has all the features we need and we really appreciate the capacity of the paper drawer! I highly recommend Brother products!

This machine can't be used with an answering machine without paying the phone company every month for a second number on your line, unless you want to use the manual setting and therefore can't receive a fax unless you are there. Unbelievable poor design. Machine seems to work fine. Very bad deal!

Fairly easy setup. Nice size footprint. Initial toner life is somewhat abbreviated but regular, full size replacement toner seems to be available at numerous retail outlets and often at discount prices. Bit pricy to get decent length (6ft) USB cord (not included) to link Fax to Desktop. However, once installed, Fax works great as printer with good quality output. Only difficult time was downloading updated printer driver from Brother site.

THIS FAX/COPIER IS REALLY A PIECE OF JUNK! I have only had it two months and it won't copy or receive information from my computer. I tried to obtain information from Brother internet, but nothing works. The printer continually send the message "telephone", instead of printing. IT IS WORTHLESS!

Product is good nice and compact and easy to set up. Unlike some other faxes these days the instructions you get with it are quite detailed (you also get a full instruction manual on a disc). However when we tried a test to see if it was working we got one of the other organisations within our building to send us a fax. They used a fax facility through a photocopier but for some reason could not make a connection with our machine. However if you phoned our fax number you heard it ringing and you got the fax tone when it answered. We then got our HO to send us a fax and it worked ok and we have received other faxes as well. Still don't know what the original problem was. Toner cartridges are also a lot cheaper than the ones for our previous fax machine as well.

Instructions were misleading. There were too many brother fax copier instructions listed in the manual leading one to think that they could download a scanner driver. You can only download a printer driver. For the price of the equipment, it would nice if it the ability to scan and I could use a scanner. Maybe you send me a scanner.

We purchased this fax machine in late January 2019 when our original fax machine needed to be replaced. It was easy to install, and has worked well for us. We rely primarily on email, but some documentation has to be sent and received via fax. Two caveats: 1) It's noisy when it dials out (the screechy modem connection sound I hadn't heard in years) and that's annoying to some people who have nearby offices. 2) The location and angle of the screen is a bit awkward - you can't glance at it and see what it says, you have to bend over the top surface a bit to read the screen. If they redesign the machine I'd suggest either a different angle for the top surface or putting the screen at the bottom of the top surface, above the manual feed tray. I think the first suggestion is the better one.

We use this mainly as a printer. The unit works well, BUT there is a nightmare problem when the toner or the drum needs changing. You are treated almost as criminal for trying to change your toner (THEY want to prevent you from using some of the cheaper alternate products out there). So, changing the toner or the drum is the opposite of simple and easy.

This printer was my replacement for the intellifax 2820. There is one significant difference between the two. The 2820 allowed the phone to be used as an extension, but not the 2840. When a call is answered by any other phone in the house, and i pick up the 2840 phone, a message saying "phone is in use". This is a killer for me, but maybe not for others. Otherwise it is a clone for the 2820, which served me well for many years. I expect this will also. But with this problem, I will likely not buy brother again.
