Hi there, we are sorry to hear about your experience with the mattress. For context, the Fire Barrier serves one primary function, to prevent the spread of fire. Two components help to achieve this. A char layer which creates a non-toxic barrier to oxygen and para-aramid fiber which combines strength and thermal protection for the mattress core.In some instances, we’ve elected to use a fire barrier made of para-aramid fiber (i.e. continuous glass filament) in lieu of harmful fire retardant chemicals.This layer does not contain known harmful chemicals and is non-toxic. The fire barrier is intentionally designed to meet US fire safety laws without being seen or felt, but to very much be helpful in the event of a fire. It is typically sewn into the mattress panels, or placed on like a sock around the product, depending on the type of mattress you have.Our best recommendation is to keep the cover on the product as suggested on the tag, and this will help to avoid any damage to the fire barrier.
