Without the extension kit, it was too small for my stair. With the extension, it was too big for stairs..

This gate is nice and easy to use. The latch can be easily opened with one adult sized hand (which is necessary when you have little ones).

6 pound chi walks right through. Says should fit 35 inches but barely and not secure because fasteners are at limit.
