Super quiet and good for a woman!

Why good for a woman? Let me explain. We live in Southern California and every year the Santa Ana winds kick up but last year was really bad and we lost power for several days. Since we did not expect this to happen we were unprepared. Our friends who had power let us lend their generator. I quickly learned that if I did not have a husband I would have been out of luck. I'm not some wimp here, I work out and I think I am decent shape but this thing was unruly, difficult if not impossible for me to move around, and I absolutely could not start it on my own since it was a pull start. Not too mention it made the loudest racket! Don't get me wrong I was grateful to have the power for several days but I thought, never again! So we bought this Westinghouse iGen4500. It took a bit to get started the first time since the automatic choke wasn't adjusting correctly and the instructions told us to fill the reservoir with the entire bottle of oil it came with which was waaay too much as it began spilling out! But once we got those issues sorted (my husband just manually adjusted the choke to get it started and then after that it did it on it's own every time) this thing was so easy to start since it has a push button start (in addition to the pull start) and it even has a remote! It is super quiet and it has a telescoping handle and large wheels so I can easily move it around! Why everything in life isn't made to be this easy beats me.

Review

Bought for emergencies. Seems like it has a lot of nice features. Love the remote start. Seem like it has plenty of power and starts easy. Not sure how often I will use propane to power but it is also a nice option. Most of the time I will be running it on gasoline. Its heavy, but handle is a nice feature as are the wheels. Its also very quiet when running. Wondering how it would work operating at altitude and in the cold. Like to see the exhaust higher so it would be further off ground for camping. Can't give 5 stars because longevity is unknown at this time.

Quiet and Versatile Generator

Purchased to power a travel trailer and in the event of power outages. Box was shipped well protected and setup was straightforward. Started on propane and ran perfectly out of the box. Retractable handle is very useful for moving around the house and campsites. Very happy with my purchased so far and look forward to using this for years to come.

Starts right up!

I bought this for a backup electric generator. Charged the battery, added oil, add gas and took it outside in 24 DegF. Started right up. I ran it several hours with a freezer and refrigerator plugged into it. No problems. It has a 3.4 gal fuel tank. Whish it was 5 or more gallons like the gas cans.

Great features

I ordered this generator recently and was received quickly. Ran it and was very quiet and easy to operate. We will use it primarily camping boondocking and at places without power hook up like Cades Cove TN . We will be there in August. Glad to have it.

great compact unit

Was delivered today, assembled per instructions and after a little coxing got it running. Plugged in my 30 amp RV to give it a test under a good load and it handled it with no problems. It is a little nosier than my Honda. but for the price and size it is a prefect machine.

Very easy to operate.

The iGen4500DF is easy to operate. I really enjoy the FOB for instant startup. The LED Data Center keeps me informed about the generator's running time and fuel levels as well as the power level. I like the generators light weight and pull handle allowing me to take the generator almost anywhere with ease. With less than 3% THD I can run my laptop and television too. I favor the duel fuel option, in case I use up my LP fuel, I've always got gasoline available to keep the generator powering up my lights and refrigeration. The generator is hooked up to my transfer switch and it's so easy to power up the house during a power outage, which already happened..

Couldn't be happier!

My Westinghouse iGen4500DF generator arrived today and I couldn't be happier. I unboxed the generator and was so pleased that after following the simple to follow instructions I was rewarded with what was truly a “plug and play” setup. All it took was a simple push of the remote start button and the generator started easily and purred like a kitten. I was further pleasantly surprised by the quietness of the generator. Can't wait to give it a test run during our next power outage.

Great Generator

I bought the same model generator six month ago. It was recalled. I returned it per the instructions. A replacement was received within one week! Great service. I like everything about this generator. It does everything it is advertised to do and MORE!! Suggestion for the next version: An oil change is required after the break-in. This should be an easy process but it is a giant PAIN!! The problem is that the oil drain plug is very hard to remove but not impossible. Here is the problem, once that drain plug is removed, it is very, very difficult to thread it back into the drain hole. One cannot get a straight angle on the drain plug to line it up with the threads in the drain hole. It will slip out of your hand and get lost down in the outside (blue) casing. A SIMPLE FIX: The casing access panel should be enlarged so one can get a straight angle on the drain plug to thread it back into the drain hole. PROOF OF THIS PROBLEM: Get the design team to have five engineers remove and replace the drain plug in its present configuration. Better still, use five "administrative" employees to perform this test. It will become evident that a redesign of the access panel is necessary and a simple solution!!

dependable unit

I bought the igen4500df due to California's power outages. What a life saver. It ran my refridg, small appliances, tv and fan. I'm sure I could have run more but am new to generator life and wanted to stay cautious. I over filled the oil so I had a small mess to clean. Noise is not too bad and fuel lasted much longer than I thought. I used propane rather than gas to save needing to run the excess gas out. I highly recommend the igen 4500. More than enough power.
