Right Capacity and Fuel Options I Needed

Formerly living in hurricane alley, I have had more experience with temporarily living off the grid than most. One of the big lessons I have learned is that gasoline/diesel are impossible to find. But, you can find propane! And propane lasts forever. So I wanted the best of both worlds and this is it. We recently moved to central Virginia, where the need for emergency power made a paradigm shift. Air conditioning is not on the top of the list anymore, since most power interruptions occur in the winter here. The need for heat (powered by propane) and safe keeping of food are now at the top of the list. This let me get a smaller generator (previously had a 10K). Easier to handle, shared fuel source and the remote start! I haven't had to use the generator in an emergency, yet. But I do run my generators under load for test every 2 months or so. And this unit is a dream. Not near as heavy as the 10K, but enough for all the loads I need to run. Starts right up, and the remote will be a blessing.

Good generator

Seems to be a good generator so far. Plenty of power and lots of features. Starts very easy and remote start is very convenient as well. Also one of the quietest generators I’ve been around. Dual fuel capability makes it excellent for running our rv. Keep in mind it is a big generator so plan accordingly.

Quiet, started first try right out of the box

Purchased this generator online based entire on the reviews. This unit replaces a 4500 watt Champion. The Champion would fit in the back of my GMC Serria when the wheel kit was not present. The iGen5000df fits WITH the wheels, which is a big plus for loading and unloading. The iGen5000df will be used for RVing boondocking. Being quieter than the Champion, the wife is happy. Being lighter (approx 15 lbs), having built in wheels and quieter, I'm happy.

Quick and easy starting process

I bought this generator for use with our RV trailer. Generator powered up all our most important appliances with amps to spare. Easy start up process instructions. Didn't take long to test after unboxing it and prepping generator to start it and turn it on. Glad I bought it.

Great features, great price

I bought the igen 4500DF inverter/generator at the Home Depot after reading improved reviews in the last 5 months I also chose them because of there no questions returns police. I decided to have it delivered to the store as an added precaution in case there was shipping damage and also freight delivered to the house is a 6 hour waiting windows. There was a small dent in one corner of the box but no damage inside. The Home Depot was excellent in allowing me to remove it from the box and inspect it, then helped me load it in my truck(about 100lbs). I prepared the generator by adding a small amount of Lucius oil stabilizer into the spark plug hole and oil filler before connecting the battery or installing the spark plug. Then I pulling the manual pull start about 10 times. Then filling it with oil, instilled the spark plug, and connected the battery quick connects. I plugged it into a full 20lb tank of propane because that is how I will be using it. I turned the power switch to on and pushed the start button once. It tried to start twice before failing and probably because of oil left in the spark plug chamber. The second time I pushed the start button it started on the second try. I let it run for 3 or 4 minuted and then turned it off with the remote start and waited a few minutes and when I turned it back on it started without hesitation. I ran it with a shop fan and power drill charger plugged in for an hour switching back and forth from Eco mode going from low idle to 1/4 power for 1 hour. I marked a 1 quart food storage container at 20 oz with a marker and liquid measuring cup.then drained the the oil noting the gray metal making it hard to see through and that I had extracted about the same amount. I replaced the oil and it started with the remote on the first turn. This time I left the switch in economy mode and ran with a fan and hair dryer and oscillating the dryer from high to low for 1/2 hour. the generator went from 1/4 load to 1/2 and back without an error. Than I ran it with a pancake air compressor and hair dryer going from 1/2 to 3/4 load for 1/2 hour without a problem. I then emptied the oil and noted just a slight tint of gray. I added Mobil 1 full synthetic and started it with the button on the first turn then turned it off with the remote. I will be testing more with the camper/ slides/ air conditioning and battery charge recovery before using it at a state park in 1 month from now but I am very pleased with it. I am very happy with it because It has a quiet idle, reasonably quiet at 1/2 load, the camper plug is a correctly mounted 30A, and every option does what it was intended to do.

Awesome inverter generator!

This is the second iGen I have bought, gave the first one (4500) to our son. Have had to use it numerous times during the year and expect to use it more as our power seems to be coming less reliable. I typically run it on propane but having the gasoline option is very convinent! Great machine, totally recommend it!

Duel fuel i Gen

I bought this in September 2022. I open ended the box and was so surprised that the generator includes a connection for propane. I was so glad it does. Also the instructions are easy to follow. I’ve not started it yet but so far it seems like everything I need is here.

Quiet! Runs Smooth So Far

Only ran this unit a couple of hours and not under any heavy load but so far impressed with the operation. Couldn't start it initially on Gas, on LP, but once it was running it easily switched over to Gas. Runs quiet and smooth. Looking forward to many years of continued service. Really love the remove start feature.

Great generator!

Great package featuring quiet operation, remote start, and the advantages of an inverter generator. Started right off the bat after adding oil and gasoline. With the 2021 hurricane season underway, I’m confident that I have a reliable source of emergency power should the need arise. The only caution I’d offer for new buyers is to take care filling the oil. The provided funnel was a great help, but the horizontal fill tube and possibly a little oil in the crankcase resulted in an overflow when the oil (also provided) was added. Luckily, I’d put a few pieces of paper towel under the end of the fill tube and this captured about a tablespoon of oil that leaked out when the funnel was removed and otherwise would hav ended up in the bottom of the generator’s housing. Again, overall a great package!

Easy to set up, and use.

I selected this generator because I live in an urban area and noise inconvenience to my neighbors was a big concern. The reason for requiring a generator was back up to the power grid going down, so it had to provide enough power to run a fridge/freezer x2, and other small items such as TV, or Internet which can be turn on and off as required. The generator also had to be something a senior citizen could move on their own. Noise - the noise level is quiet enough that it could run overnight without disturbing us or neighbors. During the day if nearby to the generator the noise isn't loud enough to be a problem. I measured 62db when about 25ft away, and audibly it wasn't louder closer too. To my ears it wouldn't be a problem running it for long periods of time. In the short time we have had the generator it has run everything we hoped it would. It wasn't purchased to run the whole house but for the needs we wanted it for it performs well. If down the line we decide more power is needed we will buy another one to run in parallel. That was a feature we noted before buying and room for expansion is a worthwhile feature. Weight - The attached handle and wheels make it fairly easy to move. It is kept in the garage and can be wheeled out with a little effort. Where we place it to run it is gravel and moving over the gravel requires more effort but it is not a struggle to do so. Took some time researching what to buy before we decided on the iGen4500DF, and are very happy with our choice. We went duel fuel to avoid the hassle of storing gas and it deteriorating.
