[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So I needed to replace my old Samsung 3D TV with something perfect for the bedroom and I decided while I was added I'd replace my old sound bar also. For a couple of years I've rocked the Samsung HW-Q800A and have been feeling like I'm missing out on surround effects. So I went all out with the purchase of Q990D to pair with my new Samsung S90D OLED. I love action movies and live music so the sound bar should be perfect, right? Well the only other surround setup I have in my house are some Infinity Beta 50 setup in my game room upstairs. Well my kids have taken over the game room and those big towers barely get used. Besides being about 19 years old the Big infinity and CSW10 sub would deliver a cinematic impact on par with some of the nicest movie theaters. I knew going in that the Q990D would be able to deliver the same impact but I expected the Atmos sound effects to make up for the lack of heft. I have to say it does and doesn't as I haven't been able to get consistent fullness in the surround sound effects the bar sounds awesome for the big marvel films like End Game but for stuff like the Quiet Place you don't get the shuttle drips and creeks the ups the suspense. What about my second love, music? Again when you crank it the bar and included sub definitely can deliver defining levels of sound and the roll off to the sub is really good but you will miss the fullness and airyness the giant towers deliver. Still best sound bar I've ever heard.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung Q990D is really impressive compared to a full 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup with a receiver. Pros: Volume output of soundbar and subwoofer. I had this at level 21 and it was plenty loud. No speaker wiring. Only power wiring to speakers and subwoofer along with HDMI to soundbar. Immersive Sound. Easy setup with WiFi. Space Fit Sound Pro which basically calibrates the speakers with a mic like a receiver would, so you know you're getting the most out of your speakers. 7-Band Equalizer when not in Q-Symphony mode. SmartThings App to adjust settings without the soundbar remote and small display on soundbar. HDMI 2.1 passthrough for the gamers out there who want to get the high bandwith, resolution, and refresh rates out of their TVs. Cons: I could tell where the subwoofer was located in the room. Could also just be difference between the locations and floor types. Q-Symphony greys out the Equalizer and won't allow adjustments besides tone adjustments to Bass and Treble. Overall: For the price point, this is a great alternative to get an immersive sound without paying a premium for a true Dolby Atmos setup and hassle of paying a professional to wire the speakers. Sometimes with my true setup, I have a hard time hearing the dialogue. That's probably due to the center channel not being at the right elevation due to the entertainment center I have downstairs. However, with this soundbar that would definitely not be an issue especially with the Adaptive Sound and Active Voice Analyzer.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The system itself is very nice looking. It looks premium for sure. Also, when it's working correctly, the sound is amazing. You get full cinema sound. But then....it can change on its own, and suddenly all the sound stays loud, but the voices in the audio almost completely vanish. And figuring out how to fix it is near impossible - it's fumbling around trying to find the right setting. It might have to do with the TV it's connected to (mine is the QN90D). But it's extremely frustrating to sit down to watch something and suddenly all you hear is the background music but absolutely no voices. I didn't even know something could separate out audio like that. There isn't much of a guide included with the system, so it's just blindly playing around with settings on this and on the tv until, suddenly, it just starts working. It has something to do with the Symphony mode I think - but I don't know. So while I really love the sound that comes from this system, this little quirk is extremely obnoxious, especially when you just want to sit down and watch something but then have to spend 15 minutes poking through settings to fix it. In the end I just turned off the Symphony thing and just run it normal, but then the audio isn't as amazing. So yeah, I want to really love this, but I just really come off more irritated by it than enjoying it. Oh, but rear speakers connect easily without much problems, so....small plus.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had a smaller Atmos surround sound setup before but had no idea what I was missing with Q-Symphony from Samsung. Combining the TVs speakers (QN85) that sound great on their own. With the HW-Q990D 11.1.4ch soundbar with rear speakers added to the TVs speakers using Q-Symphony, this made my old system sound outdated and drab and it wasn't that bad or old a system being an Atmos 9.1.1 sound bar. The sound is just so crisp from this system that my son who is a huge car audio buff came into the theater room in shock at the clarity of the speakers from the other side of the house. I had the theater room door open and he literally thought it was coming from the next room and not upstairs and the other side of the house. Not only does this sound amazing with shows and movies, gaming on the XBox has me finding myself playing more without my Atmos headset. Setup was way easier than I expected after reading other reviews. Q-Symphony supported sound device was detected by the TV and it did its thing for me. I was very pleased.

I mention this because my previous sound system used to not switch to tv audio automatically. The only reason I give it 4 star is because of its size and I could not optimize its listening like bose systems.

I had a Bose Lifestyle 5.1 surround system that quit working after 14 years. I decided to try this sound bar, and I have pleased with the performance after using it for 2 months.
