Indestructible!!!

I’ve only got about 10 or 12 hours on my 6500 but I am amazed at how it performs after surviving two floods in my garage!!! Both times the water got high enough to fill the muffler and reached the electrical outlets. Both times I drained the water out, checked the carburetor and changed the oil to be safe. It fired up, steamed out the remaining bit of water in the muffler and ran as though nothing had happened. I was sure I was going to have to spend a lot of money to get it up and running again. I’m very impressed with my purchase. I’m staying with these guys.

Works just like is it supposed to.

Bought this almost a year ago, worked well, although I only had to use it the one time then. Power company trimmed all the trees over the lines last week, so I don't know if I will ever need it again. Glad to have the b/u though. I know it will work next time because it is a Generac

Easy Setup, Well Built, Runs Great

I picked up the GP 6500E generator today. All parts were present and the assembly was easy. The unit started right up with the electric start. The generator appears to be well built and has good operating directions. It ran my power tools without a blip. The wheels and pull handle makes moving the generator on the ground easy but it isn't lightweight. It takes two people to lift it into a pickup. A separate battery charger is included as the electric start battery is not directly charged from the generator. I'm impressed so far and look forward to many years of usage.

Feeling good about having a good generator

Purchased the unit in the morning and had it fully loaded up and operating that afternoon. It handled 6kw of electric heat without any issue which would be the maximum load I would expect to have on this generator in winter conditions. I have a generator panel so have the ability to switch load as I need it including heat, water pump, refrigerator, freezer etc. While I'm not looking forward to the next major power outage I do feel much more prepared for that event.

Amazing quality and great value

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] due in no small part to recent events on the eastern seaboard, we felt it necessary to purchase a portable generator given to volatile weather here. we decided to go with the best name in the business: Generac. we were certainly not disappointed. the 8000 Watt Standing and 10k Startup wattage were plenty for our home. that and the Package coming with a Battery and an electric startup were all key features that pushed us towards this brand. we did not have much knowledge in Generators and even less in hooking them up. I love the 25 foot chord it came with and also the ease at which it is transportable via the super heavy duty tires. we went with a professional to hook everything up which cost about 200 Dollars. though I could have probably done it, as the directions were super easy and everything was marked and easily understood, we felt having someone with experience to install it was wise. overall we are very happy with this new model and even happier with the performance. it is not loud (like a Starship taking off) as the exhaust is pretty well muffled. love that feature. we recommend this to anyone with potential power issues.

I'm 77 Years Old and I Unpacked and Assembled it By Myself!

My 17500E arrived and after helping the delivery associate get it up the driveway, I lifted the outer carton off the two, yes two, pallets on which it was bolted. First I removed the battery from its mount; and then placed a couple of furniture pads at the end of the pallet on the generator side (choose this because choosing the wrong end would place the generator weight on the electrical panel). Following that I pulled (jerked) the unit off the double pallets (save the bracket's & hardware) and let it glide off the pallets and onto it's frame. With little effort it pivoted up onto the end of the frame where I easily installed the wheels and the front leg assembly. That done I simply rotated it back to the ground, and was amazed that the balance of the unit actually helped bring it to a normal upright position. all that was left was install the handle, which by the way took Phillip's screw driver to hold alignment of the holes while the first one on each side was placed; and reinstall the battery. The reason I mentioned saving the pallet hardware will be evident as soon as you see them. I can imagine a million uses for the brackets down the road, and some of the bolts with locking nuts seemed to me to be a more robust choice for attaching the battery terminals than the ones' intended for the purpose. I can assure you that whining about the weight won't get the job done, but using one's brain makes an average afternoon's project out of the process.

Needed for immediate concerns that we may need it

Having no backup plan for heat and concerns we may lose electricity with forecasted temperatures at -33°. I wanted piece of mind knowing it would sufficiently power our furnace and any other things we need. Started right up on first pull, battery wasn't charged straight out of box when I did initial start, but works now that it has been charged. Great product.

The Little Generator that Could

During Hurricane Sandy we were without Power for 13 days. My friend got power back in five days so he lent me his Generac GP 6500 and it powered my four bedroom house for 8 days without a problem running about 20 hours a day. So I went out and bought one for myself. My neighbors with bigger generators were very impressed with my little generator that could.

Easy & Reliable Operation

Assembling the product was easy and took about 45 minutes. I found the generator to start easily and it took no time for it to provide power to my home during a power outage. My 15,000 watt generator provides me and my family the safety and comfort we were looking for in the event of an emergency. This is the second Generac I have owned, my first one was a 1987 model 5,000 watt which I sold to purchase my new model. I highly recommend purchasing one.

The gas on/off switch is not well illustrated on machine or in manual

I just bought a GP8000E, so I'm just getting familiar with it. I did buy it through a support company that will be maintaining it for me. So far, my one suggestion would be to clearly mark the gas on/off switch. It's not clearly marked on the machine. The company did add a green marker for "on," but none for "off." The sticker you have on it does not help at all. I had to call my support company to find out that when the switch is set to noon and 6, the gas is on, and when set to 9 and 3, the gas is off. The manual does not illustrate this very well, either.
