Easy & Reliable Operation

Assembling the product was easy and took about 45 minutes. I found the generator to start easily and it took no time for it to provide power to my home during a power outage. My 15,000 watt generator provides me and my family the safety and comfort we were looking for in the event of an emergency. This is the second Generac I have owned, my first one was a 1987 model 5,000 watt which I sold to purchase my new model. I highly recommend purchasing one.

Excellent value

Just got it. started perfectly without any issues. Easy to move around. Everything as advertised. Have not used it for power yet but have high expectations. Not nearly as noisy as i thought it would be. Not any louder than the poulan pro 6600 which it is replacing.

This unit has everything I need to keep the essentials of my home running during an outage!!!

This has been a great unit right out of the box. Easy to assemble, simple easy to read starting and usage instructions, portable and enough power to maintain my home in a safe and functional state during a power outage. Easy electric start for my wife if I am away on business. Great generator, bought 2 more for my children's homes.

Great for whole house use after tornado

I just survived a devastating tornado in Chattanooga in April 2020. I actually bought this generator in 2013 for emergencies but had not used it much until now. When my areas grid was completely wiped out I rolled out the GP1500 and ran it for over 3 days to keep my house running and food frozen, Many of my neighbors lost all their food and with the Covid crisis going on that is a serious time as we are on lockdown here in Tennessee. The GP1500 powered my house and kept my family safe and fed and warm etc until power was restored. What a great product and it never flinched with the hot water heater, or HVAC etc running. All I had to do was be careful and not try to run everything all at once. Thanks Generac you saved us in 2020.

Except for a minor cliche generator came through in 2 emergencies

Generator was purchased during the Northeast's infamous "end of August 2011 storm" and provided excellent whole house emergency power throughout that week long period, and the subsequent week long storm emergency the following October. The only complaint is that the fuel turn-off valve knob broke off when turned off. Aside from the inconvenience of transporting it back to the dealer, the problem was quickly rectified under guarantee and with out question.

Good value

The generator owners up our whole with the exception of the AC. Fuel consumption is very reasonable. The wheels and handle Asm make moving the Gen.around easy. Easy to start and operate. Intuitive controls. My only complaint is the absolutely annoying resonance noise from the fuel tank. The tank itself has rubber bushings but with a steel sleeve on the ID. Effectively nullifying any dampening of the rubber itself. A very cordial talk with an authorized Generac repair shop didn’t solve the issue. The shop was aware of the noise but couldn't offer a remedy that was any better than my piece of carpet with a brick on top. We both laughed about it but really, Generac should have done a better job.

Nice and Quite

Had to replace my old generator (That was not a generac) that had for the last 15 years. Bought this from a local vendor. The unit started right up. I already have a generac home standby but It really uses the propane to run all night. I use this to just run fridge and furnace at night. The home standby was the best purchase ever. Soon as the power goes out the standby will start right up. I have the 6500 run just a few circuits when don't want the standby running. The 6500 has electric start which is nice. I was without power when 1st bought and it ran for 16 hours straight. No problems. I would recommend the generac name to anyone. After bought my home standby my inlaws bought one and love it. Highly recommend the portable 6500E.

A workhorse

I bought THIS generator because of the past experience with the brand, AND because this unit had a larger engine than most of the similarly sized generators. The typical 15kw genset has an 18 to 22 horsepower engine. This model has a 30hp engine!! That extra horsepower means greater power margin for starting loads like HVAC compressors. I calculated that I needed 10kw, and this units 22kw starting capacity exceeded that substantially... But in my experience I need more than the minimum because if the hvac computer crashes because of voltage drop, then starting will fail. You mush have excess power during the starting of the compressor to keep the computers happy. So I picked carefully, and while this one has much more power than I require, the price point and performance thresholds were met by *only* this generator. So I did my first test running the whole house, and this generator handled the load with few problems, but the power was very noisy, very high harmonic distortion. Some things in the house ran fine, but things powered on transformers did not like the power. The home thermostat was inoperable, the computer in the dishwasher crashed, several of the UPS systems did not like the power and complained, and my smart LED lights were very unhappy. Sensitive loads did not like this generator at all... But once I got the thermostat bypassed, the HVAC compressor seemed to run fairly well, though the compressor was noisier than normal. So to meet my needs I decided to buy the largest inverter generator that I could fine to run the house and electronics, and the Generac GP15000E is dedicated to the HVAC compressor *only*. The HVAC blower and electronics run on the inverter generator where they are fed a true sine wave. I didn't set out to buy this much excess capacity, but I still paid less than I would have if I had bought a similarly sized whole home generator, and I have a reconfigurable power plant now so I can handle any need.

Great generator, lots of capabilities

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ive been through 15+ hurricanes and I can say that Ive used a lot of generators during those storms. This is definitely one of, if not, the best generator Ive owned. The crank is a little hard to pull at first but the operation and output is tremendous. Lots of additional outlets and the ease of adding fuel (with the tank being centered on top) makes this a great find.

One Happy customer

Other than having poorly written instructions, we love our new generator 6500E. Since we are in a flood zone and it seems we are having more and more power outages, we look to buy a generator that could not only power our lights and refrigerator, furnace, but also our sump pump when needed.. It came the same day Hurricane Sandy caused our power to go off. Our electrician helped us in the pouring rain get it started since we found the instructions not very informative.
