Saved by Generac 17,000 Watt generator

Bought the biggest of all, the 17,000 Watt generator some years ago, and never used it until now. Living in Florida, you never know, when you need it, and now with Hurricane Irma, we lost power for several days. Backfeed my house at the panel, and supplied power to all my A/C untis (3 unit total) exterior lighting, etc, since we were the only house among 90 inour neighborhood, with full power, A/C, lights, etc. Unit started right away, and ran for 5 days 24/7. Highly recommendended. Only wish, you could have propane option at the flip of a switch, just in case. All gas stations ran out of fuel, so it would be a nice optional feature.

Good Value

Bought this machine to use during a power failure. Found a great price on line, with free liftgate shipping. Started up first time right out of the box, so that was encouraging. Startup procedure is simple. Has sufficient capacity to run my well pump, fridge, microwave, lights, TV's and computer. Have only run it to check out the new transfer switch and panel, but it ran smoothly throughout. Kinda noisy, but won't be running it at night anyway. Lacks a power meter and the fuel level gauge is pretty cheesy.

bring on the hurricanes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Last year we ended up without power for well over a week due to Irma. This hurricane season I am so very thankful out family is covered with for power failure! This is a large generator but very portable and powerful! It's very easy to use and well built! I also can't wait to put it to use on an upcoming camping trip we have planned in the mountains!

GREAT PRODUCT

OK LET ME START OUT WITH MY DISCLAIMER, I JUST GOT THIS AND RAN IT FOR A LITTLE WHILE AFTER SETTING IT UP SO I CANT SAY MUCH ON THE LONG HAUL. FIRST IF YOU BUY THIS BEAST, DRIVE DOWN TO HARBOR FREIGHT AND PICK UP A CHEAP SHOP CRANE, I PAID $129 FOR MINE. THE UNIT HAS A LIFTING EYE ON TOP AND WITH THE SHOP CRANE I CAN EASILY PUT IT IN MY TRUCK OR ON A TRAILER. AND I ALSO LET IT HANG WHILE I INSTALLED THE WHEEL KIT AND FOOT. THIS THING IS PUT TOGETHER NICELY AND ALSO COMES WITH THE MAINTENANCE KIT FOR YOUR NEXT AIRFILTER AND OILFILTER CHANGE AND THE INITIAL OIL IS INCLUDED ALONG WITH CHARGING CABLES FOR THE BATTERY. I BOUGHT THIS AS A BACK UP FOR MY HOME HOWEVER IF ANY FRIENDS OR RELATIVES NEED IT AFTER MY POWER IS BACK ON IT WILL BE OFF TO THERE HOUSE. MY HOME HAS A WELL PUMP, ELECTRIC RANGE, HOT WATER, SEWAGE EJECTION PUMP, ETC, ITS ALL ELECTRIC, SO IF THE POWER GOES OUT WE HAVE NOTHING.

The gas on/off switch is not well illustrated on machine or in manual

I just bought a GP8000E, so I'm just getting familiar with it. I did buy it through a support company that will be maintaining it for me. So far, my one suggestion would be to clearly mark the gas on/off switch. It's not clearly marked on the machine. The company did add a green marker for "on," but none for "off." The sticker you have on it does not help at all. I had to call my support company to find out that when the switch is set to noon and 6, the gas is on, and when set to 9 and 3, the gas is off. The manual does not illustrate this very well, either.

Very nice generator

I bought this GP7500E to replace an old Coleman generator I had, and I'm very impressed. It's quiet, it assembled easily (install the wheels, install the handle, hook up the battery, add oil, add gas, and done!), and it powers up my house easily. Here in Nova Scotia power outages have become so frequent that a generator is necessary. The only thing it won't run is my electrical baseboard heating, but no generator even approaching this wattage or price range will do that.

Reason to buy product

We bought this portable generator for the pending hurricane season. Nothing worst than being in a home for 1 week without power to run refrigerator and freezers. We researched and found Generac to be the best generator on the market. Hopefully we will not need it, but it's nice knowing you are covered if you do.

Absolutely worth it

I bought this generator a year ago after living thru other storms with no power. I never used it until the past two weeks with Hurricane Sandy here in NJ. Flawless performance. My friends and neighbors struggled with smaller generators ... the GP17500 ran without a hitch for hundreds of hours nonstop. Well worth it, not only for comfort and convenience of running everything in the home, but also for the for peace of mind that I wasn't under-powered or getting up in the middle of the night to refill the gas. Glad I got a portable ... when my power was restored I was able to let a friend borrow it.

Easy to use / Easy to set up

I had been looking at a generator for awhile and contemplated many different brands. For the price, wattage and most importantly, name brand quality, I found that Generac was the way to go. Spend the money and get the electric start. Save yourself the aggravation at using a pull start. Just push a button and rock n' roll. Upon first unboxing it, everything was zip tied together very neatly and it was well packaged. It wasn't so overdone that you spend hours cutting away zip ties like you do with your kids toys on Christmas morning. Cut a few of the zip ties and you are ready to connect the batter cables. The generator was SUPER easy to get set up. If you can use a wrench or socket set, then you are good to go. You don't have to be super handy at all to do it. The directions were very simple and easy to follow. A matter of securing the wheels to the frame with the axle and washers (Provided) and also securing the pulling handle to the frame. Other than connecting these bolts and two very small bolts for the batter connection, it was a snap and took only minutes to unbox and be fully ready to use. The generator comes with an initial package of oil and it's a matter of opening up the oil valve and pouring it in. Heck, I can do that. This unit is very heavy. So if you plan on wheeling it around your house, or you have an outlet on a further away side of your house, just remember that you may be trudging it through feet of snow, like I do in Maine. So just have a plan in place to have it put somewhere for awhile or the ability to wheel it around with ease. Overall, the generator just looks cool. The black and orange color is cool looking. Obviously not a requirement and individual tastes vary, but it looks like a well built machine and the colors pop. The Generac name is why I went with this one. From past experience of buying cheaper name "knockoffs" to save a few bucks, I have always had it come back to bite me. It's true that you get what you pay for. This unit was priced the same as the knockoffs, too... so why not go for quality, even if you pay just a tad more. But I was very pleased with the price point. LAST, and my ONLY complaint was that I thought the unit came with the L14-30R cord. It DOES NOT. So, if you plan on hooking it up to a 30amp power source, with the 4-prong outlet you will have to purchase the cord separate. Other than that, I am 100% please with the purchase and think you will be too. It powers everything in my house that I need.

A very reliable product

Purchased on the day hurricane Sandy arrived. I ran it for 12 straight days without a problem. I only turned it off to change the oil 3 times. Very well made and dependable. A bit noisy but most gas generators are. Only knock is that the gas gauge stopped working after 2 days.
