Great in an emergency

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The generac portable generator has come in real handy during our spring storms. We've had bad storm blow through our area this year and power goes out easily. My husband hooked up the generac to our fridge and a few other household things and it may our time without power so much easier. It is not very loud and it's easily to move around. When our power came back on we brought it to our sons house so they could run things Everyone's benefits from this.

Powerful

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've looked around for a while for a generator and am very glad we now have the GP6500. For some reason, when a storms come through our area we loose power a lot. It is comforting knowing we have the generator. The GP6500 allows us also to use it our at our fence to run the sprayers when we repainted the fence and also down at the barn to run power tools as we are building. I am very very glad we now have the GP6500.

It would have been nice if it worked when I needed it most

I purchased the Generac 7500E model generator approx 18 months ago from Costco. The deal that I got on it made it a no-brainer to buy there. After getting it home and out of the box, set up was a breeze. I simply put in the oil that came with it (we'll get back to this) and fueled it up, it ran like a champ. Every 4-6 weeks I start it up and let it run. I don't keep much if any gas in it while it is stored as I make it a habit to run it out of gas. This past week Mid-Michigan got pummeled by an ice storm that left us without power from Sunday 12/22/2013 at 3:03 AM until Wednesday 12/25/2013 at approx 3:30 PM. No problem right, I have a generator. I got up threw the breaker box to off, went through my start up procedure in the freezing cold of the night and had my house running with power again in approx 20 minutes time. After everything was back in order, I went back to bed and laid there listening to the generator. After it had been running for about an hour I heard it turn off. I went to check on it only to find that it would not start. I was full of gas and had been running just fine. The electric start had the engine wanting to fire, but it would not turn over. I got it into an authorized dealer the next day, Monday. It was not ready for pick up until Friday 12/27/2013. The diagnosis, it was overfilled with oil. Now, as I said, I set this up with the oil that was provided by Generac. As I remember it, a premeasured amount. I have never added to the oil. My only guess is that when my unit was tested at the factory, the oil was never completely drained. The time I needed it most and it had run the longest, less than one hour, IT FAILED.

This Unit is Fantastic!

I originally purchased the GP5500 unit, but traded it in for this GP7500E. The electric start is prefect. I set up the unit in no time and I had my wife come down to start it for the first time. She simply pushed the start button and it fired up. It actually runs quieter than other generators in the neighborhood. I would derfinitely recommend this unit to anyone, and I have. You can't beat the features for the price.

It powered the home for 7 1/2 Days

I bought this generator to power the home during those temporary power outages due to thunder storms. Then Hurricane IAN devastated our part of SW Florida. It was September 30, and I couldn't even go outside to set up and start the generator until 11 PM, when the winds dropped to 50 MPH. I bought the General GP-17500 to make sure, "IF", I ever ran the generator for a couple of days, it would have power capacity to spare. This generator powered the entire home for 7 1/2 days. I shut it down during the afternoon to cool it off, check the oil, and fuel it up for the overnight operation. And yes, I changed the oil and oil filter two times within the 7 1/2 days. Me being me, I even placed/positioned two floor fans to move air across the unit to ensure full cooling of the engine and generator. Like in tornado areas, once IAN caused its damage, the weather in SWFL was incredibility perfect. Low humidity, Low Dew-point, cooler than normal hovering around 75 all day, and cooler at night, for the next 12 days. I had wired this generator to back feed the electrical panel though a mechanical interlock and a 50 amp breaker. The main breaker must be moved to the off position, then the mechanical interlock plate is moved up, allowing the 50 amp breaker to be turned on. And when we needed hot water, we would turn off the home AC, then switch on the electric hot water heater for about 45 minutes, then the hot water heater was switched off again. We did not want to test the full power capacity of the generator, but it powered the two home AC units, the well pump, and when needed, the clothes washer and electric clothes dryer. Here too, we always powered down other high current devices like the AC units, and hot water heater, when washing and drying our clothes. For a "portable generator" bought to power the home for a few hours when a thunderstorm and winds temporarily knocked out the local power company feed, this generator performed well beyond expectations. Our next purchase will be a Generac backup Home standby generator. We now want this style unit so when there is a power disruption, the generator will taker over automatically, and I don't need to send my wife outside with the flashlight, instructions on how to position, connect and start up this unit. (Yea, listen to my big talk here. I do all of this, moving, connection and starting, but now see the wisdom of a built in home standby generator, since we recently moved to SW Florida I will start by getting a propane tank sunk into the ground, our HOA rules require this, and once in, we'll order the Generac unit with transfer switch. And "NO" we will keep the portable generator for a bit as a portable back-up generator to next to be installed backup home generator. I figured it was time to give feedback to those still on the fence.

Purchased in 2014

I live in North Georgia, we have ice storms and snow storms and tornadoes, even tropical storms that knock out our power from time to time. My house was prewired for a generator and has a transfer box. This unit was pretty much a plug and play situation. It easily runs the heart of the house more then adequately. For the last 3 years we have had to use it for every year for anywhere from 4_days to 2 weeks and we ran it 24/7. Other then changing the oil and replacing the starter battery, its been maintenance free. I heartily recommend this unit to anyone that needs a generator.

GP7500E - Easy to assemble and use with good features.

Purchased for home back up power and use on other property that does not have a utility power source on site. Little work horse that has to this point seen only small overall amount of use but when it has been called on for a power outage or an off site need it work easily and flawlessly. Well worth the cost for the piece of mind.

Let me down during the storm

Helene came through, purchased this generator and it ran for less that 25 hours and wouldn't keep running. Took it to the local services center and had to pay $40 for them to evaluate it for repair. Makes me leery of investing in a whole home system through generac.

I have owned Generac generators and they are great!

I have owned Generac generators since 1999. Have had great service and reliability. I live in Florida and we deal with storms regularly. With my wife retired and a disabled grandson at home, I need a unit that will power the whole house. If I have to go to work during storm recovery, my wife only has to worry about putting gas in the generator to have comfort. It starts with a push of a button! This new 15000 watt machine arrived and works perfectly. I highly recommend Generac to everyone I know. This new unit is heavy, but the portability and price were great!

Mighty Powerful Standby

First of all Generac is the best. I have purchased many industrial generators for hospital backup. I know that Generac is quality. This unit meets all my needs for home backup without having to go to s standby unit. It was easy to assemble and started right off the bat. Much quieter than expected for its size. This unit is well built and I am sure will last me a lifetime. Fuel tank capacity and placement are optimal and I really like the built in strainer. I am very please with this purchase.
