This has saved my bacon 4 or 5 times. I almost wish for a storm to come now because I'm prepared. I hadn't used it for a year and I ran it yesterday as a test and it started up right away. It kinda scared twice though. The first time I ran it it burned almost a quart of oil. And then once I filled it up with gas and I hadn't turned the fuel shut off valve to off and somehow the some of the gasoline went into the crankshaft. They don't tell you that in the manual. And now the manual says paper air filter but mine is foam. But ,I still love it and chain it up when not in use.

I bought it for emergency power for when our tree lined street takes out the power lines. I've only run it for a few minutes so far, to test the breaker box connection. It ran the well pump, furnace, and a few lights without issue. There will be enough power in reserve to keep us comfortable if we have another snow disaster this winter.

Bought GP8000E in Feb 2025. Only had to use 4 times, had no problems until now June 20, 2025. Now one of the GFCI output units keeps tripping after 7 seconds with nothing plugged into it. The reset button keeps popping out. Tried pushing the reset button also. The GFCI is bad, this problem should not be happening after only 4 uses. The unit is only 5 months old. Generac reports they have none of these GFCI units in stock and do not know when they will be available to ship. Generac service dealer tells me I need to leave the unit with them and possibly in 2 to 6 weeks they may get an new GFCI unit. UNBELIEVABLE !!!

My brother in law let us use his generator for a few days after we lost power during Hurricane Irma. After 5 days without power, I bought this Generac unit at home depot and it has made living without power palatable. I was very impressed with the features provided -- the hour meter and service schedule by hours; the electronic start; the 8 gallon tank; and a bunch of other benefits not found on the other units on my street.

I purchased this generator new approximately 5 years ago. I left an initial impression review at that time. Other than monthly test runs, I have not had to use it. Last night it was finally used to provide power for the entire house. It worked flawlessly. It was 28 degF. When I started the generator and it ran continuously for 16 hours with no shutdown. Temps got to a low of 6 degF. It’s one thing to lose power in the summer. Losing power when it is in the single digits is an altogether different scenario. Our house has baseboard electric heat that had to work in some rooms not heated by the woodstove. In conclusion, and as a follow up,after five years it did exactly what is what purchased for.

I, too, bought this generator in response to a long term loss of power during Hurricane Irene. After spending so much money for a couple of days on dry ice for the refrigerator/freezer, I realized I could spend the same money on gasoline for a generator and have the additional benefit of lights and television, and not to mention being ready for future power losses. The generator was very easy to set up and it started right up with its electric starter. I ran the refrigerator, television, numerous lights, and the washing machine. It has enough power to run the critical circuits in the house and I plan to have an Auto-transfer switch installed in the near future. With some judicious planning, I think I can even start/run the smaller of the two air conditioners serving our house for short periods of time. Complaints (so to speak) - I wish it came with a ground wire for use. For safety reasons, the NEC requires the generator to be properly grounded but I imagine many people ignore this because they are only running the generator for a "short" time. Including a ground wire could serve to place extra emphasis on the safety requirement. Also, I wish Generac was more helpful with information regarding sheltering the generator during operations in inclement weather, and information on noise abatement. I imagine it is mainly due to legal liability concerns, but there are some responsible grown-ups out here using the generator.

this machine is a beast! it is heavy and powerful and should provide the essential back up power my home needs. The manual for the initial set up was small in size which was a shame as a big machine should equal a big picture. the generator is on wheels but is not easy to move as it is soooo heavy. it also would have been nice if generac offered a custom cover for the machine as well.

I have had this 2 years, I have run it 60 hours. The gas tank leaks where it bolts to the frame. It's a bad design or poor manufacturing, Not made in USA for sure. Too many models and design changes to keep track of in my opinion. Just trying to get the tank replaced has taken 6 calls, 3 emails, and still no results.

My husband is the main user of this but if he's not home I know that I can handle it. It has a very powerful motor that allows us to use multiple tools at one time and not have to worry about a drop in the power. Another benefit, it starts up with one pull (I love that)! The noise consistency is at a medium level, there is no smell and it ran smoothly throughout multiple projects. having 120/240 volts are a fantastic feature along with other amenities such as, hour/minute display, ac breaker and the fuel gauge. I expect this will last is a very long time!
