We purchased beef filets and were given fatty sirloin. We paid for a premium cut of meat and didn't receive it and very disappointed. We have always enjoyed our meat from Sam's. But this time was unacceptable.

I expected a fine PRIME ANGUS flavorful filet mignon. What I got was gristly, tough and disgusting piece of meat that I would not have paid $2 for let alone the almost $30 a pound meat I received. I expected much better and would NOT ever buy filets from Sams again. I was not only disappointed but disgusted with the quality. It's back to Trader Joes I go.

Most of the meat is very good for filet mignon; however, the pieces are not cut evenly. If you are looking for 1 per person, then one of your guests might be disappointed. One piece of our meat had a lot of gristle, like a scrap piece. You might want to call ahead to request evenly cut meats if you’re doing outside pick-up.

We normally purchase USDA Choice Tenderloin Steak. This time we decided to buy a 4-pack of Prime for its higher quality. We froze the pack for later use. Whenever the steaks were thawed and opened, one of the steaks appeared very questionable to me, so I took that steak for myself. Boy was I ever right! Seared and cooked to a perfect medium-rare, then butter basted, three of the steaks were of excellent quality. However, the fourth was as bad as it gets. About two-thirds of the steak contained totally unchewable grisly streaks that had to be spit out. I know that sometimes this can happen even with tenderloin and cannot always be helped. I am not a butcher, however I usually buy a whole tenderloin and cut my own steaks to get the size and consistency I want. Since it was obvious to me that there was a problem, it should have been obvious to the butcher that packed them. We would have been embarrassed to have served that steak to guests as we oftentimes do. Buyers beware when buying an otherwise excellent product.
