New user but great experience so far!
I just started using my Gear S3 a few days ago, but so far i'm loving it! I was previously tracking all my fitness / health activity on my phone (more manual process of entering hours slept per night, and not always accurate in its step counts since I don't carry my phone 24/7), but this has proven way easier. As a girl, this watch design is not my favorite - it's a bit bulky, heavy, and intense looking, i would prefer something airy and lighter and more delicate, but it's still cool and very functional.
Best smart watch available
This watch has met and continues to exceed my expectations. I find new apps and functionality everyday. The Google maps app, the message app, and Shealth are my top used. I especially like the s health integration and the workout detection. The watch has the look and feel of a standard watch with all the great function of a phone. Love this as a complementary piece to my s7 and my gear circle headphines. Highly recommended for anyone looking to upgrade or get into the smart watch game.
Nice Tech for a Great Value!
If you are looking for the watch that does everything, this isn't it. If you are looking for a good alternative to a Fitbit or even an entry level smart watch for your Android phone - yes. I got a great price on this, and this may be the best purchase I have ever made from Sam's, based on my use of the item, its quality and price shopping elsewhere. The watch is solid, made of aluminum. This replaces a Fitbit that I was just too hard on. While I did purchase the ext 2 yr wrty, I put this watch on and it feels substantial. The watch is clear to use for phone calls on the outgoing side, but the speaker is a bit hard to hear unless you are in a low noise environment. I can see who is calling so I don't have to take the phone out of my pocket or pick it up. Emails and txts are easy to read; FB posts also show up. It does track activity and even notices when I pick up my heartbeat for a faster workout. It has a nice wireless compact charging dock after a days use. I probably could go 2 days on one charge with my usage, but it does charge quick. I sometimes use the alarm on my watch vs the alarm on my phone. There are 100's of watch faces to down load and play with, many are free. They download and change quickly. I am still slowly learning more of the watch will - there is a lot to explore.
Hello Emack. I hope you continue to enjoy your Gear S3 Frontier Watch as you become more familiar with the device. Thanks for letting Samsung be a part of your family! ^Kayla
Great watch. Just don't cross your arms.
This watch is great for me because I work in an environment that is loud and has lots of vibration so I never hear or feel my phone. I like being able mimic Dick Tracy by talking into my watch, I also use it to respond to texts. One of the flaws that might be fixable by a software update is that when you cross your arms the buttons get pushed in by your wrist, or the bezel gets moved. I thought about rotating the watch so that the buttons are on the left instead of the right but without a way to tell the watch that you did that, the wake up gesture doesn't work because of the direction.
I love it!
I've had the Frontier for nearly a month now and I love it. Initially, I ran my battery down with open apps and the different watch faces. I read on how to preserve battery life and it has worked. But I have gotten at least 4 days of use without recharging. I could have gotten 5 days easily, but I read that its not good to let it drain pass 40%. I had a problem with it slipping when my wrist sweats a little during workouts. I now put a rubber band on my arm to keep it in place. Overall, it has a powerful speaker and great feature. If it would sync with Nike+ run club, it would be amazing.
An amazing leap ahead!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been hesitant to move away from my original Samsung Gear since one of the features I loved was the built in Camera. I took on the Gear 3 wondering if the look and features could outweigh the loss of being able to take pictures on the fly without having to pull out my phone. There was another feature that I enjoyed with my original Gear which was the sleep tracking. Looking around and testing I found that the Gear 3 no longer has the option to start and stop the sleep tracking manually. After a few nights I found that while it may not let you manually start and stop tracking, the watch itself does a pretty accurate job of determining when you go to sleep and when you wake up. After the first week I there was no question the Gear 3 blew my original Gear out of the water. Speaking of water, the first test was could this watch go with me wherever I go, do I need to hide it when it rains. Having an IP68, I didn't have to hide my watch when I was caught in the rain and didn't have to worry about forgetting that I had it on when I took a shower or wanted to jump in a pool. The 1.3" display not only offers a beautiful screen to look at and a classic watch feel but it gave me the ability to actually read a message and not just a small piece of the message. Not only was I able to now read full messages, but I was actually able to provide an actual response and not just a canned message. The ability to type, write, or even speak my response is amazing. Talking about ease of use, one feature any parent of young children would find useful is Samsung Pay. When you have your hands full and not able to put people or things down to pull out your wallet the ease of accessing Samsung Pay on the watch adds points to it's value. While not all stores have integrated the technology, enough have to make it worth it. Not to mention the WOW factor when people see you swipe your wrist over the reader and realize that you just paid your bill! I could go on about the performance. I could go into the ease of use between swiping and the turn dial. I could even talk about the health reminders to keep moving, tracking calories, water intake, etc. I could even go on about the stand alone functionality or the wireless charging. There is so much I could praise this watch but I think the best way would be for you to try it yourself.
Best Stylish Smart Watch
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love my Classic Samsung Gear 3. I get at least one compliment a day on how dope my watch looks. I like the fact that I can change the faces on my watch, it make me feel like I have 10 watches in one. It challenges everyday to walk and run more. Seeing the alert ketting me know that I have reached my goal is AWESOME. It keeps me motivated. I love the fact that I can answer my phone calls and text right from the watch. It also monitors your heart rate which is a huge plus. It even gets better you can listen to music on it too. No need to pull out your phone if your hands are full. The is the best Smart Watch Hands Down!!!!!!
Outstanding hardware needs better Google App support
Overall I am fairly impressed with my S3 classic watch. It delivers -for the most part- exactly what a user wants. In my opinion there is a difference between how I use a phone and how I use wearable tech. The phone provides me a feature rich input/output system , the watch primarily is there to reduce the number of times I need to check my phone during the day to answer the mundane questions. Who just texted me? Who is calling me? Did the Bears win their game? How are the markets doing? What on my to do list today? In that respect the watch is actually more of an output system, it provides a streamlined source of information that I can use to decide if I need to take my phone out. Of course the watch can allow inputs through canned messages and s-voice but they are much more cumbersome and using the inputs is generally no easier than pulling the phone out. The battery life is absolutely as good as advertised. I can get a legitimate four days of use, although I almost always recharge every three days. Samsung pay is awesome. Works like a charm and continually impresses people who think they don’t have a compatible reader. The magnetic radio is very cool. Its stylized very nicely and feels like a real watch not a plastic geek toy. I feel comfortable wearing the watch with nice clothes although I could see how it may be incompatible with female wardrobes due to its masculine nature, size and appearance. I wasn’t sure exactly how I’d use the rotating bezel but Its really grown on me. It’s a neat mix of style and functionality. My number one complaint is its lack of compatibility with the android/google ecosystem. I am heavily invested in the Google ecosystem. Google applications are central to how I interact with my android phones. I use hangouts for texting, gmail for email, google maps for navigation ext. I could go on. While I can receive notifications from these apps that is about the extent of the compatibility. I occasionally use watch canned responses as a quick reply to messages but with a hangouts group message I can’t. Support for google maps is also very low. There is a maps api plugin but it is not optimized for the S3 watch. I would NOT suggest full google maps on a watch but something more like a display to show what the next turn is or how far until the turn. Set the destination on the phone and see the next step on the watch. In my opinion support for google content and applications is mandatory not optional for the future success of the gear watch platforms. In conclusion without basic google app support I will give the Gear S3 4 out of 5 stars, once google apps are supported It’s a solid 5. I’d participate in a focus group if you need more meaningful information.
Well worth buy
I really like this watch a lot. I've held out to get a watch that would fit a certain design and would be worth getting. This did it for me. Design is manly but classy and the watch function works great. Only thing I wish it had was the googlen maps and a few other apps I use on the phone. Also more detailed info on all the options. Like the altÃmeter and barometer. A must buy. Oh yeah samsung pay is the best on this watch.
Battery problems......fixed
when setting up, make sure to look at the watch face battery usage, and the apps you have running in the background. some watch faces will drain the battery in hours instead of days. same goes for apps. download the gear app, connect your watch to your phone, and monitor from your phone to make sure you have everything set right
