Holiday Baking Simplified
I /love/ this mixer. I cannot say that enough. I purchased it before Thanksgiving 2015 and picked up a spare bowl for it and I cannot even begin to tell you how useful it was when I was making quick-breads and even the dinner rolls for Thanksgiving this year. The bowl is sturdy and easy to clean and the instructions on the basic operation of the mixer are super clear. All in all, it works like a breeze and has taken time out of my prep work where I had to constantly stand and mix with a spatula or standing there hoping that the batters and doughs I put together would not break my handmixer. The bowl-lift design of this stand mixer makes kneading doughs simple and you won't have to worry about overtaxing the mixer because it does not have the tilt-head design that can sometimes lead to thicker, stickier doughs not mixing properly. Bottom line? Get this mixer if you do holiday baking or if you like to make bread. It can easily handle enough dough for two loaves at once.
Disappointing
I bought this mixer to replace the one I I inherited from my mother. I loved my old professional model! I thought this was the same. It is not. The bowl size is smaller -5 quart, not 6 - and it just doesn't "feel" right. The whipping beater doesn't reach the bottom of the bowl or completely on the sides, so, really, mixing is not efficient. I can live with those issues, because I cannot afford an absolutely top of the line perfect mixer. The worst feature of this mixer is the handle on the bowl. It is thin -very thin - and it cuts into your hand when you hold the bowl. I have arthritis in my hands and this bowl is torture! My old model has a rounded handle and is very comfortable to use. I have a very big family and I use my mixer a LOT so this is a big problem for me. It is a beautiful mixer. I have the red one and it is so pretty buy it is going back. I'll keep looking for a repair shop for my beloved 6 quart professional model. I loved everything about that one!
This purchase was a Christmas present for my son. He said he likes it and it works fine. However; I bought this item from Sam's Club because of the $50.00 mail in rebate. The initial price was the same as other on line sights, but I thought that I would order through Sam's as I could save 50.00. As yet I have seen nothing about a rebate. I asked my son if their was anything in the package, but there was not. My next step is to try and contact Sam's Club about this rebate

Had to return
I wanted to love this mixer, it's such a good deal. But when I went to use it, I followed the book's advice. You check to see if the beater hits the bowl. Mine did slightly. You are to turn the screw counter clockwise to raise the beater. I did that. When I turned it on, it made a terrible noise and it damaged the beater, taking some of the paint off the bottom and the bowl didn't hang properly anymore. I'm sure it's a good mixer if you can get the beater and bowl adjusted properly. Apparently, counter clockwise lowered the beater on this one. I had to return it and bought the Artisan.
I will be exchanging out my 2nd unit tomorrow.
OK So I've had a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer for well over 10 years, and the planetary gears just went out. So figured it was time for a new one and an upgrade in power and size as I use this in my kitchen all the time making dough. The first Professional 5 unit purchased mixed the first batch of dough a-ok, but a few days later on the second batch, it ran about 5 minutes in the kneading process and stopped dead. Seems to have gone out on thermal overload, let it cool, went out again within a few seconds. I had to finish the process by hand which I haven't done for 10 years or so now. I Took that unit back and they told me about the $100.00 off deal that came up last weekend, so I waited and ordered one online from Sam's Club. Received it today and checked it out for the proper operation. This one I didn't even get any dough in the bowl. An extremely cantankerous little piece of equipment I will say!!! This one is a bit noisy in the gears when it gets going and a clunk every once in a while, but the main problem this time is the 10-speed power switch. Sometimes it decides to work and sometimes it doesn't. Doesn't matter what you do with the switch, it has a mind of its own. So, tomorrow I'm taking this one back, and getting a third unit to try. If this doesn't work, KitchenAid has a huge problem with parts and quality control. I'm not holding my breath, but giving the benefit of the doubt; yet, Three strikes you are out!
Much better than the artisan.
Great value, much better for doughs than the artisan. Loved the steadiness of the unit. Made bundt cake and cookie dough as well as whipped cream in it so far. I also like the attachment cover does not have to come off only flips up. Much improved. Love it.
Great Gift!
I just recently bought this after wanting it for sooooooo long. I always try to wait until there's a good sale and low and behold, one finally came around the corner. I love how over the years they changed the colors, I purchased the blue one. Point is, I love to make homemade pizza, it's a fun activity to do over the weekend. This thing did a beyond wonderful job. My pizzas have never come out as great! I've used the same receipe for years, this time it came out waaaaaay better. It comes w/a catelogue of other stuff you can order, of course all this stuff is expensive because this product has been around for a long time, meaning it has proven it's worth.
Powerful Model
I bought this for myself as an upgrade in power over an Artisan model I'd had for 8 years. I do a lot of baking, especially at Christmas time. It easily mixes the cookies I bake that call for 7 cups of flour over the less horsepower Artisan. This has plenty of power and doesn't seem to struggle at all with batters. Happy I didn't go overboard and buy the much more expensive larger model. I didn't rate it 5 stars as it is lighter in weight than my older model even though the size is larger. My concern is that the materials used may make it not as durable. Loved all the color choices - my blue model sits on the counter and looks great with my back splash tiles. Looking forward to mixing up some batches of homemade bread with the dough hook.
A little disappointed
I was excited to get a Kitchenaid stand mixer at this great price. I have been a little disappointed though. My old Kitchenaid lift up head mixer was 33 years old and had been wonderful. There is still nothing wrong with it, other than no really slow speed to begin mixing. I gave this one to one of my daughters. My new mixer is much louder than my old one. I do love the extra slow speed to begin combining ingredients. It looks great also. I assumed I would have a much larger mixing bowl, but do not. So, bottom line, I am not sure I would purchase it again.
Awesome Machine!
This KitchenAid powers through 6 cups of flour for dough, and grinds cheese, meat and bar soap (I make my own laundry detergent) with ease. My son gave this to me as a gift. I gave him my old KitchenAid that's as old as he is and he's 23! This is an even better one than the one I had. I probably used my old one (literally) about 1,000 times, and this new one seems like it will last just as long.
