Starkist Chunk Light Tuna in Water

Surprisingly and unexpectedly this Starkist Chunk Light Tuna in Water looks like a tuna soup. It is stated on the can that out of the 5 oz total weight, only 4 oz of tuna remain after draining the water. Wishful thinking! Out of 4 cans I drained and strained thru a strainer, I obtained ONLY 10 oz of tuna, meaning that in a 5 oz can only 2.5 oz are tuna. Not to mention the annoyance and waste of time to drain and strain the content while also squeezing the water excess during straining with a tablespoon.

What has happened to the tuna?

Opened 3 cans to make tuna salad for supper, very, I mean very very little tuna inside the cans, very little. We used 9 paper towels to get at least enough water out so we could make one and a half sandwiches out of 3 cans of tuna and they were thin sandwiches at that.

great product… but…

Lately any canned good I buy comes to me dented. The first 25 times I never said anything but seriously if you are trying to stock up a little, dented cans are not what you want. I never wrote a review or complained… but today I saw that one of my packs of tuna only had 10 cans and upon further inspection a couple cans were dented to the point that a can opener will not work.

Maybe good for cat food, but not for humans

When these were on Instant Savings, I grabbed the limit of them, and now I have buyer's remorse. Nearly every single can has had bits of dark skin, some as large as a US quarter coin but most in the 1/4" range. There's also a lot of water to drain out of each can. Luckily one of my cats seems to like this tuna, for now at least. I'd even be embarassed to give them to a local food bank.

Had some bone and scales

Second time I've purchased, and there were pieces of bone and hard scales in with the tuna. Had to be careful and pick them out before using. Lacking a strong tuna taste, too. Needed a lot of salt and pepper to be palletable for sandwiches. Not the best quality.

Tates good but actual dry weight is off by 25%

The information on the can shows that the dry weight is 113g. After weighing the dry weight of multiple cans, the actual dry weight averages around 85g. This is a reduction of 25% of the dry weight. Basically, I got 25% less tuna than claimed by the packaging. Not only is the dry weight less, but the nutrition values it claims, is also reduced by 25%. I tried a different brand of tuna at Amazon, and it had the same weight issue.

As good as always

This is the only tuna I buy. It always has a great taste and seems to be better quality then some other brands available. Not a huge savings compared to other stores but it's convenient to not have to buy 12 individual cans at a time. Will definitely purchase again.

Tuna Soup

At best, the content might be called tuna flakes. You will find no 'chunks'. It's basically a tuna soup, sometimes with questionable bright red or black nuggets. The cat does like it, however, so there's that. IMO it's very much worth the money to buy the Members Mark solid albacore, which is excellent.

More water than tuna - one sandwich per can

I opened the can of tuna, to my surprise, the tuna was literally floating in the water. Can you say drowning in water? There were no chunks of tuna, just little bits. You would be lucky to get one sandwich per can of tuna with this Starkist. So don't be fooled by the price - you get what you pay for!! Chicken of the Sea at least has nice flaky chunks.

Dented Cans!

My son fed my fur babies the tuna and they became ill and are currently being treated for food poisoning. Upon inspections of the item, I found that 80% of the cans are dented. The damage did not occur during shipping, because the shipping box was intact and perfect. I was knowing given the damaged items. I reported it to the club and supposedly, I am being issued a refund. The bigger issue here is the health of my cat and kitten. Also, the expensive vet bill that I am now responsible for! The act of providing customers with damaged items is despicable!
