"Espresso," of course, is a beverage -- not a roast level. You can create perfectly stunning espresso using any kind of coffee from light to dark. Starbucks, though, tends to roast very darkly (following the practice of their progenitors in the coffee business and of left-coast practice in general). What they call "medium roast" would be dark in most areas of the country. I suppose what is most surprising about this coffee is that it tastes like anything at all, since it is roasted just below the point at which it would become pure carbon. But in fact, it's reasonably good for dark-roasted coffee -- probably the best you're going to find in any given supermarket. The roast level virtually eliminates the possibility that the coffee will taste sour or bitter (unless you majorly overextract it), but in exchange, you get a coffee that tastes mostly like the roast. You would never do this to an expensive varietal coffee, since the roast level would completely obliterate any complexity the beans might have had. But then, that's not what this is. Despite the name, I find it a nice coffee to use for pour over methods (or even aeropress). The product is nothing if not consistent, and I think it turns over often enough that you're likely to get coffee within a couple of weeks of it having been roasted.

I love this coffee. I bought it 4times during 5month. But the order in this time was terrible. 1. shipping date for14days(They were not any notice to me.) 2. Star bonus : Ordinary this coffee(2pack, 192pod) is earning16 stars, but they gave only 10stars. My 6 stars was missing. This purchase is so bad...

My wife and I both enjoy strong dark roast coffee in the morning. This is my favorite roast and I grind the beans to a medium coarse size (4.5 out of 9 in a Kitchen Aid Pro burr grinder). I do not own an espresso maker but enjoy this flavor the most. A close second is the Cafe Verona.

Part-time barista here. Consistent taste and very similar, but not the same, to store espresso shots. A solid cheap alternative if you're looking to budget your daily Starbucks fix. Really only good for iced espresso drinks unless you have a very nice steamer but at that point you perhaps would also have a very nice full set espresso machine as well. Milk pods for the machine to make hot lattes are... well... let's just say its very clear that you are using powdered milk.

I love this expresso with my iced lattes. I always make a double or triple shot iced latte using either vanilla, caramel or Irish cream syrup. The best I have ever had. And I have had a lot of them. Love it. The Kenya expresso pods work great too. ✌️

I am not an aficionado. I do not have a grinder. I am a Starbucks fan. When I recently went back to making my own espresso, I finished off the Starbucks Espresso Roast ground coffee I had. When I bought more - Espresso Roast ground, I quickly discovered this grind is for coffee not espresso. I find the label "GROUND" deceptive but really I am upset I have a relatively expensive bag of coffee I can't use and I apparently can't buy the coffee I need.

What a better way to get over the dark winter morning than with a cup, actually two, of a great coffee. Starbucks Espresso Roast is full of aroma that fills the the air with great expectation. It is dark with a strong taste. And when you are done drinking, you are ready for ANYTHING coming up during the day.

The coffee is rich and indulgent, with a nutty dark chocolate flavor. I like my morning espresso with three shots and a dash of almond milk. The almond milk takes just the right amount of acidity out of it. I also love that it comes pre ground because it takes a step out of the mix for me. #ad
