We were at a loss of what to say when we were told That the French roast would be discounted . Come on guys and his is one of the best roasted beans my husband and I have ever had he pleasure of sipping...life will not be the same...we implore you to please reconsider this decision!

I suppose the coffee is OK, but the problem with my order of 10 bags for Christmas gifts is a problem. The bags of whole bean coffee are very hard, caked like old coffee, wrinkled, and just a mess. I cannot use those as gifts now, as they look like they were throwaway items,so I cannot give a pleasing review.

Few years ago this type of blend was called: French Roast Extra Bold and it was a mix of Latin coffees only. The new name Dark becomes multi region and adding Indonesian and African tastes. Is there anybody out there (or Starbucks themselves) tell me what taste from Africa (Ethiopia or Kenya?) and from Indonesia (Sumatra or Sulawesi) have been added to the New French Roast. I prefer the rich dark pure latin (Costa Rica / Columbia and Brazil blend) therefore sometimes opt to taste the Guatemala Antigua as an alternative. Meanwhile French Roast is still my best choice, even a very little acidity of African coffee could be recognized in it.

If you like your coffee toe-curling strong then this is for you. The coffee has no bitterness to it and has a great tatste. Had no problems using it in my coffee maker.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Starbucks French roast has great aroma. The coffee is dark but smooth. The coffee beans are grounded so the shelf life is just a few months. I love the smell and taste of this. I use this for my cold brew coffee.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my sample bag of Starbucks French Roast. I thought it would be bitter. But, it was pretty good. The second pot, I added just a bit less grounds. It turned out better. It is a bit oily and that is the reason for the 4 stars. I would recommend this product for people that like a bold cup of coffee.

My husband and I love Starbucks French Roast coffee. After grinding each day the aroma fills the kitchen with such a pleasant smell, and it is by far our favorite coffee. It has a bold, rich flavor with no bitterness. At Christmas we will get the Christmas blend to try, but the French Roast is our all year favorite.

I love dark coffees, and this one is perfect. It has a great aroma and taste when warm/hot. This one isn't as good at room temperature as the other VIA coffees, it almost seems too diluted. (I sometimes just mix in a water bottle versus hot water, and the other VIA coffees are great that way).

French Roast is my favorite Starbucks coffee. I started drinking it way back when it was a big part of all their blends. Somehow it achieves a sweet, smoky smoothness with no harsh finish or burned aftertaste. I hope rumors of its demise are exaggerated - nothing else is quite the same.
