Only $120/lb Hawaiian's, self roasted to an oily black (but not sooty) roast beats this. But why bother - SB's French Roast (and Espresso Roast) are two absolutely superior pre-roasted coffees for espresso. If I'm really trying to impress someone, I'll spend the afternoon roasting a 1/3 lb of Hawaiian. If I've got any fresh. Which is unlikely. And I also take the chance of screwing up the roast as it's got to be micro-watched/timed. So believe me save yourself the trouble. These two pre-roasted coffees are FULL of flavor, even 2-3 months after purchase. They'll both absolutely knock you off your feet. Rich, non-acitic, no burn taste AT ALL, just a perfected piece of work. I'd even give their Espresso Roast the same kudos. Plz remember: the French Roast is a MUCH bolder roast/bean than the Espresso roast. Yes, you will really taste a marked difference between the two. But they're the only two worth having. And they can't be beat - and believe me I'm sure others have tried in vein for years lol

It might be too bold for some palates, but if you're looking for a heavily roasted punch, these are the beans for you. Perhaps unbeatable value for whole roasted beans. Good on your wallet and in your cup.

This is my favorite flavor of Via and I order it each and every time. My only criticism is that I can't purchase it in bulk - with the other Via flavors, like Italian Roast, I have the ability to purchase in packages of 50, but not with French Roast.

I love French Roast coffee, the ultimate fr me being French roast Sumatran coffee. But any French roast is god, I have a taste for the deep, dark, strong taste of it. Lacking a bean grinder currently, I turned to this product -- I had used some of the other instants before -- and was richly rewarded. A quick 9nstant cup of real coffee in the morning. I would definitely use again.

I drink all my coffee black, and all other roasts tend to upset my stomach, but French Roast remains my all-time favorite. It tastes crisp and clean at any given time, and its smoky flavors accentuate clearly. I wish that there was a decaffeinated option for French Roast, but I am willing to daily suffer inconveniences from caffeine for this beautiful Dark Roast. It is just so pure and unadulterated coffee, tried in the fires of roasting and the fires of my dark mind. Thank you.

This glorious coffee hasn't been available in England for years but fortunately I have family who like to holiday in the USA so can get the occasional bag. I love the rich flavour and the mouthfeel. Practically perfect in every way. The only downside is the way that, like all dark roasts, static makes such a mess when grinding.
