The tampon does have a smooth plastic applicator. The directions on how to use them are inside the box if you're unsure. These are safe travel with. I store them in a cosmetic pouch inside my purse for on the go. I also store them in my bathroom as well. These are easy to use and are comfortable and are very lightweight. They do come in different sizes which is fantastic. I'm happy with these. I will continue to use them and I highly recommend them.
