The instructions were clear and we'll explained. The product came with a razor set that is to be used to shave all hairs before using the IPL. I followed the instructions and did legs and bikini each week, paying attention not to overlap areas I had already treated. In the bikini line it does tend to smell of burnt skin but there was no burning sensation whatsoever. After about 2 months of use the areas I have treated have show decrease in hair growth and it is certainly working. Likes there instructions say there will still be hairs in areas you may not have touched consistently. Overall I'm very satisfied and would recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got my free silk expert from Braun 3 weeks ago. It looks quite space aged! I read all the instructions and did a patch test. When I had no reaction I jumped right in to use it on my leafs, underarms and bikini area. The unit is really easy to use. If you use the unit for more than a few minutes it gets quite warm but not too hot to use. The only area I found I couldn't get the lights to illuminate so it was ready to use was in my knees and around my ankles. Other than that it's very simple and straight forward. I haven't noticed any difference yet with my hair growth, but the booklet says it can take a while. So I'm definitely going to keep using it as its so quick and easy to do.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I hate to shave, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to test the new Gillette Venus Silk-expert! I was impressed upon opening the box! This looks and feels like a serious piece of equipment! Its construction is solid and it appears to be a very high quality device. There isn't much that comes with it: the Silk-expert device, a two-part power cord (it has to be plugged in to use it), an instruction manual, and a Venus Razor. I prepped both of my legs by shaving them with the enclosed razor and patting them dry, however I only used the Silk-expert on my left leg so I will be able to compare the results at the end of the trial period! I plugged in the power cord, and the device powered on. It has its own internal fan and a row of LEDs on the side to measure skin tone and show the automatically applied power setting. I held the treatment window to my leg and the LEDs lit all the way up, indicating a very light skin tone and the highest power setting. NOTE: there is a Gentle Setting you can also use, but I went with the automatically detected setting. You can hold down the button and it will flash every couple seconds or you can press the button for individual flashes. I used both methods depending on where on my leg I was applying the device. The flashes are very bright, like a camera flash, and for the most part I only felt a little bit of warmth at the treatment site. A couple times I felt a very very minor sharp sensation, almost like plucking a hair, but not nearly as bad. I'm guessing that maybe there was a stray hair that I missed when shaving that caused the sensation, but it was not painful and did not concern me. It only took a couple minutes to do my left leg, and that's with me being very careful and going very slow to start. I'm now 15 minutes post treatment, no irritation, redness, or itching. I definitely have high hopes for the Silk-expert, and will continue to use it weekly! I have used this hair reduction product twice. So far, I'm LOVING it. I find that it has worked best under my arms. I remove hair as normal and then use the device once per week. (I had reviewed online forums about pros & cons) If you use this too frequently you risk burning yourself. However, I've only had positive response to it and find I'm no longer shaving my armpits every day as I was before doing the therapy. My legs seem to be taking longer to reduce hair growth but I totally plan on using this throughout the summer to deduct time from my routine of hair removal. I cannot wait to have a friend try this and give their opinion as well! Highly recommended. Only downside I've so far come across is the price. I think they are pretty pricey for the device but if you are into not shaving and saving on razors, this is for you!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, I must say that I am totally stoked to give this a go!!! I read all instructions and shaved like I was told. The areas I chose were underarms, lower arms, and lower legs. I was not scared at all to try this. I did the first click on my left arm. It felt a little warm and like a very mild static shock. So I worked my way up the arm pressing the button each time and waiting for the flash. It really did not hurt- the anticipation that it would hurt was far worse than the little "shock" feeling that actually was felt. After doing my legs and arms- I can really say it was no big deal and I wondered if I did it right because it really is a piece of cake. It took about 15 min to do all the areas, but that is probable because I was working slow- I feel that it will get faster as I am more accustomed to the tool. Next time I will try the "glide method" mentioned in the manual. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because I don't know the results. As for setting up the unit... It was simple really- just plug and play. All in all, I am happy with the experience and if I achieve the results mentioned and I don't have to shave often if at all, I will be one happy camper!!!

I am no stranger to hairy issues as I have dealt with razor cuts, razor burn, and ingrown hairs just to name a few. I was ecstatic to receive my Gillette Venus Silk Expert in the mail. Upon arrival, the packaging for the actual product was superb. That may sound like a strange thing to say, but it is the first thing you see. First impressions can make or break a product and even decide whether or not someone will even buy it the box was so study and protective. I instictively associated this with a high quality product before even looking at the product. Upon inspection of the Silk Expert, it was larger than I expected. It seemed very durable as well. I was expecting to have to wait to use it until it was fully charged like mist electronics. Alas, all I had to do was plug in and could use it right away. After throughly reading the instructions, I began my initial use. I had freshly shave arm pits and bikini area. The Gillette Venus Silk Expert is easy to hold with its curved design and has enough weight to it that it doesn't flop around. The actual treatments give the slightest sting, if you can even call it that. I was expecting a little pain and was pleasantly surprised to feel the opposite. After a few pushes of the button, I was done. I actually reread the instructions as this seemed too easy. Nope, it really is that easy. I was done in less than 5 minutes. As I have continued usage, I have seen amazing results. I just got back from a 10 day camping trip and my legs are just as smooth as the day I left. I am seeing great results on both my underarms and legs. My bikini area is taking a little longer to respond fully, but the lack of re-growth is still very impressive. I would highly recommend Silk-expert to anyone, and have already told all of my friends about it.

I first read all the directions that came with this product, and decided to give it a try. I started with the 24-hour sensitivity test like the product called for. I plugged the product in and did as it stated, ran it over my skin. I didn't fell a thing. There is no pain, no pulling of hair, nothing. I checked that area 24 hours later and I was perfectly fine. I shaved my legs with the razor they sent me and then proceeded to try my entire legs. What a breeze. This took approximately five minutes to do. I am just waiting to see how it grows in. I will keep you updated.

Shave first, make sure there's no oil or lotion on the spots you are treating and that's it. Took me less than 10 min to do my underarms and lower legs. I felt no pain on my legs, but used the gentle mode on my armpits. No redness or irritation occurred. I didn't have any issues with treatment, although I did turn the device perpendicular to my ankle because both skin sensors didn't touch otherwise. Now, waiting til next week to treat again. :) Braun sent me the device for in order to test and review.
