[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm just now getting started as the instructions mention that you shouldn't use if you plan to be exposed to the sun. I spend a lot of time in the sun so now that it's been raining for days I thought I would give it a go. I'm using it on my underarms and my husband's back. I think it mildly stings, a bit like a bee sting, but he seems to think its more painful. Regardless this is to be expected with this type of product. I haven't noticed a vast improvement in amount of hair, but haven't been able to use it as frequently as I would like because I am regularly exposed to the sun.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just finished my week 4 use of Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert Powered by Braun. I received one from Braun 4 weeks ago. It has been very easy to use. Simply place on skin and push the button. The Braun did everything else. It determined my skin color and the power it needed to work the best. Mine was on the highest setting because I have light skin and dark hair. It also has a button to reduce the power it you don't like the higher power. After using this for 4 weeks I have noticed a difference in my hair thickness. I used this on my underarm of one arm so I would have a good comparison. The hair that grows in on the treated side is much thinner and softer. I have treated my legs also. I have seen some thinning of hair and some spots that are not growing back. I look forward to seeing the difference as I continue using it.

I have used the Silk Expert over a period of several weeks and am fairly impressed with the product. The device itself is somewhat heavy but not unwieldy and about the size of a rolling pin. I'm impressed with the results of the device - over a 3 week period, I have noticed fewer hairs and less noticeable hair where it has not gone away completely (I have light skin and dark hair, which is supposedly the combination the Silk Expert will be most effective on). I was initially concerned with the IPL technology because I didn't want to be causing myself undue skin damage, but everything I read indicates that (as of this time) it doesn't put you at an increased risk for skin cancer. The downside to the product is its initial cost, however it pales in comparison to the expense of repeated professional skin treatments. There is a learning curve, but it's not difficult to master. The process takes more time and care than shaving with a regular razor, but I believe it's worth it in the long run and I was grateful to have had the chance to try this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Silk-expert every week since I got it. I definitely see results. The hair doesn't grow back as fast as when I only use a razor. But, I still have to shave during the week. Also, I still find it a bit hard to use. I really wish it had more than I setting, as I never know if I'm getting the right "light" treatment when I use it in a large area and in a precise location.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Venus Silk-Expert every week for the past 6 weeks. I was a little nervous to start because I have done professional hair removal before and it was absolutely NOT painless. This was a breeze. Slight pinch but only in areas where I didn't shave as carefully. I started on the lowest setting and worked my way up as I got comfortable. I was up to the highest setting within the first three weeks. The light is extremely bright, so some eye protection would be a good idea. I wish something had come in the box - just a thought. I really liked the indicator on the side that told me if I had good contact or was in an area that was not suitable. The unit is easy to hold and not too heavy. Getting into the areas I want to treat is pretty easy. Each session only takes about 20 minutes and I am working multiple body areas. As I have not used it the full 12 weeks, I can say that the hair is definitely slowing down but not gone yet. The regrowth is less dense and I have high hopes for the remainder of my treatment. I am giving 4 stars as I have not seen anything dramatic...yet.

I have used this hair reduction product twice. So far, I'm LOVING it. I find that it has worked best under my arms. I remove hair as normal and then use the device once per week. (I had reviewed online forums about pros & cons) If you use this too frequently you risk burning yourself. However, I've only had positive response to it and find I'm no longer shaving my armpits every day as I was before doing the therapy. My legs seem to be taking longer to reduce hair growth but I totally plan on using this throughout the summer to deduct time from my routine of hair removal. I cannot wait to have a friend try this and give their opinion as well! Highly recommended. Only downside I've so far come across is the price. I think they are pretty pricey for the device but if you are into not shaving and saving on razors, this is for you!!

Would I say "amazing" results, no, but I would say willing to take the 12 week challenge like their research stated. I will say that I am a firm believer in the Venus disposable razor now though! That has held up at least 6 uses and still as good as the first time. Jury is still out but not turning back yet!

With summer fast approaching, it seemed the perfect time to try an IPL (intense pulsed light) system. I have looked at other IPL systems in the past, but never bit the bullet and bought one. I tend to have very dark body hair, and I have to shave every other day in the summer. Since I have very fair skin and dark hair, this type of hair removal system is supposed to work well for me. When the Silk-expert arrived, I tried it right away. It comes with A Gillette Venus razor - I've been a die-hard Venus user for years, so shaving with the Venus was pretty routine for me. You do have to shave before you use the Gillette Venus Silk-expert. Using the Silk-expert is very easy; just hold down the button and slowly glide it along the surface you want to be hair-free. The Silk-expert flashes as it moves along the surface. I have been using it on my legs, underarms, and bikini area. If you've shaved well, the experience is completely painless. I learned that if you've done a poor job of shaving prior to using the IPL system, you do feel it a bit. Even so, it's really more of just a tingle than anything painful. Sensitive areas, like underarms and bikini area, also tend to tingle a little during use. The flashes are very bright. I'm a bit surprised that you do not need any sort of eye protection when you use the system. My husband won't hang out in the same room with me when I'm using it because he says it's too bright. The instructions say to look away during the flashes, but this is difficult, since there is an indicator near where the flashes originate that you need to check to see how much power is being used. Use of the system is pretty fast; I can usually do my legs, underarms, and bikini area in 20-30 minutes (and I move the product very slowly in order to not miss any spots). I've used the Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert Powered by Braun weekly for 5 weeks now. I held off on writing this review because I wanted to be able to comment on how it was actually working, as far as actual hair removal. The packaging says that some women notice a reduction in hair growth in as little as 4 weeks. I'm not sure if it's wishful thinking, but I do think there has been in reduction in the amount of hair growth, especially on my legs. I can't wait to see how much it's reduced by the time I finish the recommended 12 weekly uses before switching to monthly use. I'll update my review later with that info. I am so looking forward to a summer where I don't have to shave every other day!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I hate to shave, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to test the new Gillette Venus Silk-expert! I was impressed upon opening the box! This looks and feels like a serious piece of equipment! Its construction is solid and it appears to be a very high quality device. There isn't much that comes with it: the Silk-expert device, a two-part power cord (it has to be plugged in to use it), an instruction manual, and a Venus Razor. I prepped both of my legs by shaving them with the enclosed razor and patting them dry, however I only used the Silk-expert on my left leg so I will be able to compare the results at the end of the trial period! I plugged in the power cord, and the device powered on. It has its own internal fan and a row of LEDs on the side to measure skin tone and show the automatically applied power setting. I held the treatment window to my leg and the LEDs lit all the way up, indicating a very light skin tone and the highest power setting. NOTE: there is a Gentle Setting you can also use, but I went with the automatically detected setting. You can hold down the button and it will flash every couple seconds or you can press the button for individual flashes. I used both methods depending on where on my leg I was applying the device. The flashes are very bright, like a camera flash, and for the most part I only felt a little bit of warmth at the treatment site. A couple times I felt a very very minor sharp sensation, almost like plucking a hair, but not nearly as bad. I'm guessing that maybe there was a stray hair that I missed when shaving that caused the sensation, but it was not painful and did not concern me. It only took a couple minutes to do my left leg, and that's with me being very careful and going very slow to start. I'm now 15 minutes post treatment, no irritation, redness, or itching. I definitely have high hopes for the Silk-expert, and will continue to use it weekly! Just so you know: I received this product for free from Braun in exchange for my HONEST impression and review. :)
