I tried this chocolate Carnation Breakfast Essentials because it's a lot cheaper than the quick nutrition drink I've used for a long time. This is good-especially when really cold--but it's more like chocolate milk than the chocolate shake/malt the other is like. I prefer the thick, rich taste of the other, but because I go through so much of these drinks, I wonder if I should have more of this one, to save money.

My kids both tried it and loved the drink! It was a great source of protein and calcium to start their day. I would definitely recommend this drink to start off you or your kids mornings. The product looked good, so I drank it instead and I loved it. Tasted like a chocolate milkshake and I think it would be great for breakfast.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First impression just looking at the outside of the packaging at the nutrients and ingredients, I was disappointed in the quality and how this brand can make people believe this would be a healthy option. Over 200 calories, lots of added sugars, and the protein ratio was very low. The thickness of the drink was decent, I prefer a little thicker. The taste was more like a knockoff chocolate taste. In other words, I've had better and wouldn't recommend this product.

The flavor is really good but I just couldn’t get away from the fact that there was added sugar. I don’t mind if it’s “fake” but cane sugar or just straight isn’t my favorite when it is supposed to be nutritional.

I was a little hesitant to try it as it is a shelf stable drink like any other breakfast shake and the taste varies big time by brand. I decided to refrigerate my drink before trying it. It tastes like a shake I'd buy at the drive through! It has a smooth, rich taste. Who doesn't love a chocolate treat for breakfast that is giving you some of the nutrients you need to start your day.It keeps me satisfied for a decent amount of time as well.
