Hi Pamela, thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear this about your handle. In an effort to re-engage the locking mechanism inside the handle, please try the following steps. Hold the red handle in your right hand - grey in left. Extend halfway (not fully) turn red handle away from you to lock. Extend bottom grey part (closest to the base where the treads are) halfway, turn toward you to lock. You should now be able to extend both ends fully to locking position.
