He suffers from wrist pain and after using Voltaren at bedtime for a week, his pain has been managed. The gel has a slight perfume scent that is very calming and enjoyable. I use it on the top of my feet, my soles, and my toes. As soon as it was on my feet, I instantly felt relieved. It’s clear, so it doesn’t stain my socks after I cover my feet. It doesn’t feel greasy. The smell isn’t terrible, as long as you don’t inhale it LOL.

I was excited to try this because I have arthritis in my neck and back at 31 years old but unfortunately directions say not to use it on neck or back. However I do also have some mild arthritis in my elbow due to a break when I was younger and this does help the pain there! It’s not oily or tacky feeling and doesn’t smell too strong.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First and foremost, this is labeled for use on hand, wrist, elbow, foot, ankle, and knee. When you read the drug facts provided, it specifies to use on 1 or 2 of those areas, not more than that. Further, the instructions state that it may take up to 7 days to work on arthritic pain and to discontinue after 21 days. After reading the packaging thoroughly, I became less enthusiastic about it due to warnings with other drug contraindications. Since the active ingredient is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it warns to ask doctor or pharmacist if taking any other pain reliever, especially NSAIDs, including aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or others. It also states to not have 3 or more alcoholic drinks daily, which is definitely more than I’d consume, but all the warnings made me leery of drinking any alcohol to numb the other pain. So this topical gel is only meant for one or two areas excluding shoulder/back/neck (where I also have pain) and pain relievers are not advised without consultation. The literature states taking other pain medication is generally not recommended during the first seven days. I don’t generally need to consult a doctor or a pharmacist before taking over the counter medicines because I’m relatively healthy and not taking any prescriptions currently. At that point, my excitement to try a new product was definitely waning because that meant taking no pain relievers for those other areas. I applied this to a knee that gives a significant amount of pain, for which I would usually use a brace or wrap throughout the day. However the instructions for this topical gel also specifically state to not apply a bandage over the treated area or external heat like a heating pad. While I washed my hands well after each application, I was aware of the medicinal scent, which I wasn’t fond of, but it dissipated. Bottom line, it helped somewhat, for a limited amount of time. It did not immediately cease the pain in my knee. Then again, the dosing card where one is supposed to measure the dose amount of gel states this is not for immediate pain relief. That’s true. It doesn’t deliver immediate relief. Worth noting, it’s supposed to be reapplied four times a day. I think that this product is meant for someone who only needs a treat only one or two of the six areas specified, has no need for taking any other prescription or over-the-counter items or use any other modalities, such as heating pads and bandages. I’d think that may be a rather small population because people dealing with arthritis pain likely have it in more than two spots or also have other pains in other areas beyond what this product is meant to treat or possibly have other health conditions that need to be considered. With any medication, even OTC, there are warnings to consider, but the warnings provided were very concerning. Here’s a quick synopsis of those warnings: heart attack and stroke, liver damage, stomach bleeding, and allergies including blisters, shock, rash, hives, swelling, asthma.
