You don't need any additional tools other than whatever came in the box. The pieces were labeled and our small children were even able to help set up the bed! I have a newton crib mattress and it fit nice and snug so I didn't have to worry about any weird gaps. The wood is smooth and seems durable. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and they like swinging on the little wood. I do wish it had some accessories to go with it, like a housing sheet to go over the house shape so my girls could play house or pretends or just have time to themselves in their own little world. Overall, I think this is a great bed frame, it has good quality and again, I loved how easy it was to assemble.

My little one and I love that it is Montessori style and on the floor. They can crawl easily in and out, and I don't have to worry about them falling and hurting themself. However, I will say I wasn't expecting the mattress to be directly on the floor. I figured there would be some slats or something between the floor and mattress, but that may be due to my lack of knowledge with Montessori style. I also like how the setup gives me the option to use the bed with the A-frame canopy or as two separate pieces. Of course, I'm using the bed with the canopy so I can hang some netting and string lights to hopefully create a magical environment for my kiddo. Instructions were easy to follow, and assembly took about 30 minutes. However, I will note that there was an odor when I first opened up everything but it did dissipate quickly. The pieces appear to be made of quality sturdy material. The non-toxic coating is a must as we all know toddlers be toddling and will put their mouth on just about anything. Love that its low to the ground and can turn in ti a play area. My daughter has slept in it every night since we put it together. Seems very sturdy. We put a sheet on it to help feel more cozy. Fits a crib mattress perfectly. Probably suitable for a child from 2 to 3 years old, so hopefully we will get a year out of it. It may be a bit better if its taller, my 2 year old daughter hits her head on it sometimes when getting up in the morning. The height and bottom rail do make it very easy for a toddler to get out of when they wake up.
