I bought this unit about 9 months ago. It has degenerated steadily for the past 3 or 4 months, then failed completely. At first by freeze frame, followed by loss of sound, then stopping completely while a fragmented still picture remained. Though still under the one year parts warranty, the labor warranty expired after 90 days. I did not feel that the parts warranty was worth the cost of shipment to a repair facility plus any labor charges. Instead, I chose to replace this unit with another Sony unit a little farther upscale.

Received my Sony HD DVD player very quickly, hooked up to my new flat screen TV and it is working perfectly. Very sleek, requires little space and now I can watch movies in bed. Wal-Mart shipping site to store was also a big plus. I would definitely recommend this product. Price was also very reasonable.

I bought this Sony HDMI DVD player because my old DVD player broke down suddenly and completely -- freezing or distorting the picture. Because I was watching a DVD at the time and need to finish watching it that same day , I didn't have time to research my choices more thoroughly. I bought this model because it was available immediately at Walmart Online, and was the cheapest. Pros: Picture is clear, and does not skip or break up. Good value for the money. Cons: 1. the remote control is difficult to operate. It is very small, and when I press the forward button to move to the next "chapter" or "section", it often skips and moves it two chapters. Then, when I want to bring the movie back to the preceding chapter, it might skip 3 chapters back. Totally erratic behavior. 2. the button to turn the DVD player on does not always work. I have to press it several times before it turns on the player. Maybe I should sit nearer the TV...which defeats the purpose of having a remote. 3. It is difficult to tell when the player is on, become the green light is very tiny. For the record, I wear glasses and see the picture on the TV screen very well. I also do not have fat fingers, which might cause me to press two buttons at once. In conclusion, I would not recommend this to a friend unless he/she likes to sit really close to the TV, has tiny fingers and excellent eyesight. Because of these frustrating problems with the remote, I would not buy this player again.

This dvd player works great right out of the box. Easy to set up and use when hooked up to the tv with a HMDI cable which you must buy separately. This importtant fact that there is no cable included is the only reason for the 4 star rating instead of a 5 star rating.

Good quality picture with HDMI, small and lightweight unit, easy to install. The light indicating that the unit is "on" is too small to see from a distance; the control buttons are not easily pressed, but not a big issue since we mostly use the remote; it would be really nice to have an LED display on the front. For the price, the DVD player is a bargain and a good choice.

We have an old DVD recorder that records TV shows to DVDs in standard definition. This DVD player actually upscales these standard definition DVDs to make them look much, much better to nearly high-definition quality. Impressive! We wish the on-off light was bigger because it is so small that we can't see it across the room, but we're still giving it 5 stars because of the way it upscales standard DVDs to nearly high-definition quality. Very easy set-up. Price was good too.

I bought a Sony dvd player similar to this model 4 years ago from a local store at Walmart and never had any issues until a few days ago. I opened the back to clean it but was not able to open it completely because the screws were too small so I replaced it with this new one which works perfectly. This dvd does not play blue rays nor does it do fancy stuff it just plays dvd's and cd's.

This abomination is truly an example of "you get what you pay for". The most annoying "feature" (that by the way can NOT be disabled), is the auto power off. You walk away from it on pause for maybe 15 minutes, it'll turn itself off. Then to cycle power, it takes 30 seconds or so. It needs to boot up, then power up the CD section, spin up the CD, then the screen will be blank until you hit play. Then it has to spool up the video. If I had not thrown away the packing material (my luck the trash pick up happened right after I put the box out), I would have returned the unit for a refund. Biggest gripe - that auto off feature that cannot be disabled.

Installation and setup were minimal. Price is a real bargain. It worked right out of the box, and you can't ask for much more than that. It's simple and straightforward. We attached it to a ceiling mounting bracket for use in our church fellowship hall, and actually used it to show about 8 hours of movies the next day. Worked great, makes an excellent high resolution picture using the HDMI connection.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was exactly what we were looking for. We don't have many things on DVD, but we missed watching the ones that we do have. We just received some DVDs as a gift and wanted to watch them. We can watch on out computers, but wanted the television.
