After peeling back the lid you add water to the fill line, give it a good stir, then microwave it for 3 1/2 minutes. Then allow for the cup to sit for 2 minutes. The texture of the rice and carrots was nice and soft. Flavor wise, I felt it was a little mild in comparison to other Uncle Ben's products I've tried. But for a quick and easy meal or side, this is perfect to doctor up. You could add any type of meat or additional veggies. I liked adding soy sauce and chicken.
