I am very disappointed in the Opal 2. I had the previous version Opal 1, I had to replace it twice during the first year because it kept breaking down. I love the ice though so I thought I would try the newer version. Unfortunately the side tank is smaller and needs constant refilling and the ice maker produces ice much slower.

I really loved this ice maker until this year. I bought this back in 2021 on sale and it ran great. Lots of people warned me, mostly chefs, that if it ever broke down it would need a complete replacement. Well mine wouldn’t make ice anymore. We cleaned it every month, followed the manual and it just stopped working. We then did all the troubleshooting ourselves and still it would make mush and not ice. It’s been sitting on my counter hoping I could find a GE tech but I can’t get someone on the company’s line. I would honestly find a much cheaper version to own because if these small appliances can’t be repaired then at least buy something that’s more affordable to replace. I go out of my way to disuade people from purchasing this appliance. It’s just sad and a waste.

I love it - was purchased for my office and love the pearl ice and it's perfect for my office. little to no cleaning on this if you use filtered water. as the holding water container empties just fill it up and your ready to go again. that easy. Kind of expensive but you get what you pay for. I've been hearing around of 3 different other cheaper machines that others have purchased and they've already stopped working and I've told them MINE is still going with no issues.

This machine is my best friend. She's so pretty. Makes me delicious ice. Sends me a text to give her water or clean her. Such a vibe at night with her lil light. I have nothing bad to say about this ice machine. I went through 20 different ones before this one always trying the cheap machines. The GE Opal is so worth the price.perfect size. A lil noise when I fill up the water but nothing bad and makes a lot of yummy ice all day.

First off the GE Opal 2.0 Ice Maker itself is fantastic with the type of and production of ice that it makes. SONIC ICE. There is no question about it when it comes to this. It is second to none. Its fast, quiet (slight hum) and holds & keeps ice available with having to continuously run the machine. FLAWS: Cleaning it can be a large pain in the butt depending more on the placement in your situation. If you have to move it to a sink, its not a light weight machine, so keep that in mind. The wifi app allows very basic integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. Like turn on and turn off the machine and light. That's it. You can not ask them what is the water level or if it's time to add water. They have no clue. There are no PUSH NOTIFICATIONS to your phone like every other app out there in the world for Smart Appliances or Lights. Example you go to work and want to turn on you machine on the drive home (something happened while you were away and water in the system. You will not know until you arrive home) It would be great to a Push Notification stating that if you use your Voice Assistant to turn it on. The only way to know is if you go into the app which defeats Voice App integration in the first place. I'm not sure how dumb a company has to be or how important this functionality is when it comes to using your voice to operate a machine you paid $$$$ because of getting such features and not fully delivering on it, but for me, I feel cheated at this price point. Last Flaw: it does have a scheduler, again no Push Notification if you run out of water, that is easy to program. But there is not a scheduler for the built-in light feature. This is controlled by the app and manual only. WHY? With the average ice makers of this size are a lot less expensive, why am I paying so much more, without getting so much more features I assumed would be present at this price point? Typos may or may not present

I bought the opal ice maker as a Christmas gift for my wife who saw it at a friends house, she is absolutely in love and so am I! The ice is amazing,fast,and.CRUNCHY easy cleaning function for best tasting ice and the extra water reservoir Jim’s a nice addition for getting the most out of it!

It's so good to always have this type of ice on hand. It's great for my wife and myself. Makes additional ice rather quickly too! Would highly recommend as an excellent ice maker for your countertop. I like the way it recycles the water from melted ice.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second Opal ice maker and the improvements made on the newer version are fantastic. Product is much quieter compared to older models, the automatic defrost function is an nice added feature and installation was a breeze.

Ice machine pumps out ice quickly, simple to use. Ice is good quality. Downsides: not insulated super well, water has condensed in the basket window with no way to take apart to clean. App scheduling interface and capabilities are a bit confusing and difficult to navigate. Fairly heavy, cumbersome to move around for cleaning. Can get loud at times, not sure why. Replacement parts seem insanely expensive or impossible to find. Quite a bit of water drips into tray when you take it out to get ice. Wish you could take back apart to clean inside better.

If anyone is considering picking up their own nugget ice machine all I can say is don’t waste your time with other brands. I love my GE Opal and I will not be consuming ice any other way while I am home. My only complaint would be this MSRP but if you can catch the Opal on sale 10/10 I would tell a stranger to purchase it!
