When your Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice builds up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic, and may take 30-45 minutes to complete. More frequent squeaking many indicate the need for a deep cleaning using white vinegar to remove internal mineral scale buildup. We also recommend checking to be sure you have a minimum of 4" of clearance on all sides, back and at the top for good air circulation. Also check to be sure any vents on the sides or back of the unit aren't blocked. The Opal will begin ice production 10-30 minutes after it has been turned on. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full, or it runs out of water. To continue making ice to ensure the bin is full and stays full, just add more water to the reservoir. It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit.
