Never worked

This never worked. While trying to set it up and use the cleaning cycle I got the dreaded “add water” message. Look this up. It is a well known thing for this machine. I tried different amounts of water, different locations to make sure the machine was level, etc. No luck. It never made a single cube. Listen to other reviewers when they say this thing is a waste of money!

We own two of these great icemakers!

These are great icemakers!!! We have found, the hard way, that the quality of water you put through the system is important. If you have hard water in your area you must use some type of water filtering system to filter out the calcium and magnesium. The scale inhibiting filter sent with the icemaker is not enough. I use a Zero Water filter system because it specifically filters hard water. You will never have a problem. Love the little ice nuggets!!!

Biofilm

I have had this product for over 3 years and have been religious about cleaning. Unfortunately these units still have biofilm build up and there is no way to complete clean the unit without taking it completely apart and dedicating 3+ hours to cleaning. When you use the clean cycle, the water does not get to all the places and biofilm will build up. This does not have a clean in place feature and the UV light doesn't work. Do Not Buy!

Great but needs work.

I would give it five stars because of the quality and amount of ice it makes except the design of the machine where the buttons are is poorly designed. Also the cleaning button constantly flashes. With the GE app there is no way reset it after descale it. Ice is great, design needs improvement.

Great Little Ice Machine

Absolutely love this machine. It is quieter than the built in ice maker on my GE frig and I love the nuggets it produces. The additional water reservoir is a must have. Even with little ice use, without the reservoir, you'd be refilling the after twice a day. It's making and keeping up with two people that frequently use ice. It makes ice quietly and quickly and looks great. It's nice to have the WiFi connectivity to keep up with maintenance but I've not needed it. Still, it's nice have all of my appliances on one app. The drip tray is a must because when you pull the ice drawer out it will ALWAYS drop water. I would like to see less water mess when pulling out the drawer but I'll accept it with the drip tray, though I'd like to see the drip tray attach in a way the reservoir stand does. As it is now, the drip tray can easily be knocked out of position, even off the counter altogether. There are only two things I'd like to see. One is scoop storage. I've seen mention of a magnetic device that holds the scoop on the side of the machine but obviously mine didn't come with it, which is disappointing for the price. Secondly, I think a, aluminum or stainless steel scoop would have been preferable to the plastic one, but those two things are far from deal breakers.

Drips water from ice bin

The ice bin dribbles A LOT of water when you open the bin. I have to put a napkin on the plastic drip pan, just so it doesn't spillover before I get it wiped up. It is a pain to have to continually wipe up water. Also, every 21 days I have to clean it. It is cumbersome to have to move it to the sink to drain and clean. It is a heavy machine. I assumed cleaning every 4 - 6 wks like my old ice maker.

5 years great ice

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had our first Opal ice make for over five years of continuous use without any problems. Great ice every day. It was a bit squeaky for a few months in the beginning but that went away. We did clean it once a month which is a good amount of work but worth it. It finally quit working and we ordered a new one even though it probably could have been repaired. We are very happy with that purchase.
