Having come from using manual toothbrushes all my life, switching to an electric toothbrush took a little bit of an adjustment period. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with how little pressure it actually took in order to get my teeth clean. Design wise, this toothbrush is straightforward, and I had no issues with setup or charging; I did make sure it was charged fully before using for the first time. I have been using this toothbrush for almost three full weeks, and still haven't needed to put it back on the charger, even with the additional time I take to brush my teeth in the evenings. The automatic shutoff at two minutes (which I confirmed with my own timer) is nice, but I do wish there was an option to lengthen the time. Aside from wanting an option for a longer brush time, the only complaint I might have pertains to the price point; there are toothbrushes in the same price range from other brands that have similar and/or more comprehensive features - I don't feel like this one, while easy to use and extremely effective, offers enough to set it apart.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used sonicare products for years now and love their reliable cleaning skills. This new sonicare does a good job of cleaning my teeth, but I prefer the four tones for segment cleaning of your mouth over the 6 that it now has. I normally do bottom front, bottom back, top front, and top back and switching to six segments makes it harder to remember where I have been and insure cleaning is done evenly. I do like the flashing notification that you are pressing too hard, but think that having it notify you when you are at ideal pressure (green) would be really helpful as there is no way to indicate that the pressure is too light. I do prefer my other sonicare for it's charging (place it in the glass cup and with a wall outlet) I don't mind the set it on the base charging, but having to find my own wall plug in with the proper specs needed to connect the USB cord provided was very annoying especially if you are traveling. The power level of this brush also feels weak compared to my normal sonicare. I have it turned up to the highest level which doesn't seem as good as the standard level for our current sonicare. The new brush head is definitely softer than I was expecting and only a week into use it has already flared out quite a bit. I don't see this brush head lasting as long as a standard brush head with normal use. Final thoughts: The brush handle works well as a basic sonicare but is definitely lacking some power/ features of the more premium models. I do think that customers switching from manual to this model will be happy with the switch and see improvements in their oral health. I do think that investing in one of the better quality brush heads will make the brush handle significantly better and it would be great to see how it performs with the A-3 premium brush heads I usually use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Philips Sonicare 5300 toothbrush is a very basic electric toothbrush option. It only has two intensity settings (both controlled by the same single button) and I sometimes found myself accidentally switching between the two settings. I preferred the stronger vibration. While the toothbrush does a good job of brushing and I did always feel “clean” when finished, I found myself wanting my older style toothbrush which has additional options (including an extra long cleaning cycle vs just a 2 min timer). In addition, I also found the vibration to be a bit extreme and the brush head would “chatter” against my teeth which isn't an issue I've had with other toothbrushes. One other observation/frustrations is that while it includes a chafing cable, it does NOT include the wall adapter (which is more common these days). All in all it does a good job cleaning but has limited “extra” features. Note - I did receive a free unit of this toothbrush to test as part of a review promotion.

After using this Sonicare for the past couple of weeks, I can honestly say that it has made a difference in my oral health. Not having prior experience with devices like Sonicare, it took me a time or two to get used to it but it is very easy to use. First off, I love the small brush head. It makes it so easy to get to every spot in my mouth, even way back behind my back teeth. I love that it has different levels of intensity so I can adjust it to what works best for me. It even has a program that starts low and increases intensity over time to allow you to acclimate to it which is super helpful. The instructions show an image of the teeth organized into zones so you can concentrate on one area at a time. The brush has a set time for each segment and gives you cue when it's time to move to the next section. I really like this feature because it helps me spend enough time to get my teeth really clean. The handle is designed in a way that fits very comfortably in my hand and makes it easy to control my brushing. I did find out that it's messy to start the brush before you put it in your mouth or if you leave it running when you take it out of your mouth to spit. I have quickly gotten used to it and now it feels very natural to use. My favorite thing about using this product is how clean and healthy my mouth feels. It reaches in to all the tight, hard-to-reach spots so everything gets cleaned. It really breaks up build up. Even brushing several times a day with my manual brush did not make my mouth feel this clean. I am really happy with this product so far.

I think the price point is more than reasonable for this type of electric toothbrush. It does basically the same exact thing as my more expensive toothbrush but at half the cost. I would have purchased this toothbrush instead of my pricier toothbrush.

My teeth feel glossy and shiny. The battery lasts over a week without needing charging. The brush head is small and gets every part of your mouth a normal toothbrush would miss.
