As someone who practices a Mediterranean diet, the ability to cook a variety of beans and grains to a variety of textures (soft, firm, regular) is awesome. This is going to be my meal prep best friend. I just made some steel cut oats and they were absolutely perfectly done. The machine is touch screen, it walks you through each step, weighs your grains, adds the perfect amount of water, time varies for desired texture, and ends with a pleasant chime when your food is ready. There is a progress bar on the screen while your food is cooking. You have the ability to delay cooking or keep warm which is nice if you want to prep in the morning for dinner. There is also an included steam basket and the machine can function as a steamer for veggies while you cook your grains. I appreciate the aesthetics of this machine, it looks good on my counter and can easily be stored in a lower cabinet or pantry.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love it!! It is super easy to use and I don’t have to worry about over cooking the rice or burning it. I was finally able to make the perfect rice. I also steamed eggs in it. Cleaning up after the rice was super easy as I used the pre-wash function to set me up for a easy clean up. The only down side is the price. While I think it is worth it for the tech it is too expensive for me and definitely a luxury item.

I love absolutely everything about it: the integrated scale and water scale, water reservoir, steamer to add my favorite vegetables, and the ability to program up to a day in advance . The cleanup was amazingly quick and easy. Anyone who eats rice on a regular basis will want to treat themselves to the KitchenAid Grain and Rice Cooker.

To be fair, I will acknowledge this likely could have been user error, so will run it through the cooking phases in the coming weeks experimenting with various settings.. You can get creative and cook any meal of the day. Personally, it’s been key in meal prepping as someone who has busy workdays and schedule. My favorite kitchen gadget. Excited to try new recipes! PROS - can cook and steam at the same time - easy to clean - doesn’t take a lot of shelf space - low noise levels CONS - wish I could sauté my rice or beans in the cooker - limited steaming space

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don’t know if it’s me and I’m using it wrong or if my cooker has issues, but I haven’t had the “fluffy and delicious” rice that everyone has been raving about. It not only cooks inefficiently, it’s incredibly heavy, and living in a shoebox apartment means that I have to take it out of its spot every time to cook rice/grains. Given that it is so heavy, it makes it a chore and not a versatile swap as I was hoping it would be. I also have a trusty old rice cooker, which is only meant to cook rice, which I find miles better compared to what should’ve been a versatile replacement. Additionally, because it was made to make huge amounts of grains/rice (eight whole cups worth!!), it isn’t practical to use. Really bummed out because versatile appliances are a must when living in a tiny apartment.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Some things come out perfect. Quinoa, for instance, is light and fluffy. I have never achieved that level of fluffiness cooking it on the stove. Other things, however, are coming out dry or undercooked. Farro is a good example. I got this specifically because I want to eat more of this super healthy grain. I like the set it and forget it concept of cooking the farro this way, but I have not achieved a level of softness to my liking yet. Jasmine rice has come out on the dry side. Forbidden rice, (black) came out perfectly. Now on to the steaming feature. Broccoli cooked to perfection! However, it does not have the ability to choose what food you are steaming so you have to set a separate timer or you’ll get mush. I have to watch the machine while “water is heating” and then when steaming starts I set my timer. Maybe there is a way to adjust this preset time? I haven’t found it yet. Mostly the machine is user friendly but I have not had good results with going into the custom settings. A little confusing to use. Oatmeal, rolled oats, have also been a little drier than I like. They are cooked well but not enough liquid. I have tried using other liquids than water. I used a broth for some lentils. And I once used milk for the oats. Unfortunately the machine does not tell you when to stop adding liquid which I didn’t realize so I probably added too much broth for the lentils and not enough milk for the oats. Am I missing something here again? This is a smart machine that is weighing what I’m putting in so shouldn’t it tell me when to stop when it’s not using the water from the reservoir? Overall I’m not sorry I got it. I like kitchen toys that make things easier for me and this does help. I perhaps need to tinker around further to get the results I prefer.
