We have wanted a pellet ice maker forever. This ice maker looks great and we sprung for the side tank so we won't have to put water in it every time we want to use it. Set up is easy but it does take a little time sanitizing it. It is substantial -- my husband and I moved it from the floor to the counter together (but then we're old!!). It looks great on the counter even if it does take up a lot of room. And it definitely needs space around it because the ice maker puts out a lot of heat (esp from the back). But in just under two hours we had a full bin of ice! And it IS the good ice. If the Opal continues to operate in the future the way it has the first day, happiness and pebble ice will fill our house :-))

We love the ices produced. It's amazing It does run all the time. When you use ice it will turn on but before it can replenish fully it puts itself in to some kind of defrosting cycle melting half the progress it made. Then it will resume making ice only to get almost full then need to defrost again... it's not a huge deal and I have never came up to it and not been able to fill my cup. But I could see it struggling to keep up in a high usage situation. It make a low rumble sound in operation and sometimes squeaks while compressing the ice. On occasion when I wake up in the morning it will be half empty and I need to open and close the door to get it started. I would not purchase this item without the side tank... I feel like you would be having to constantly open the door and check the level. Also fill it quite frequently without the side tank. As long as you know all the above you will love this machine like we do

After about a month and a half of working fine the ice maker went into Defrosting mode and hasn't made ice since. Attempted to clean it multiple times, but alas, when we turn it back on it cycles back and forth from Making Ice to Defrosting about every 20 minutes and has never made ice again.

The ice is fantastic and the unit is much smaller than my previous ice maker. It was a little bit to get started but I should have read the instructions more. The water filter caused it to stop working and the wireless will not connect. I would like to get those both working for the price it cost. But overall it makes great ice quickly!

It works great for the first 1.5 years... then starts squealing and making loud clunking noises out of nowhere right when it's out of warranty. There's a ton of videos on YouTube about this problem, and how to fix it... but every one of the GE Opal ice makers look completely different once opened up (mine was also completely different than any others when I opened it up), and mine was not able to be fixed due to the cooling design. Seems like the noise is a very common issue with these GE ice makers, and the manufacturer hasnt done much to fix it eventhough theres multiple variations and designs of the same appliance. I'd recommend staying away from the GE Opal ice maker and looking for an alternative like I'm about to do now.

We are really enjoying this ice maker. The small nuggets are perfect size for our drinking water, juices, and shakes. The machine is easy to operate and maintain, and fits perfectly on our countertop in a corner of the peninsula that isn't useful for much else. We only put reverse osmosis water in this machine, like we do all of our machines. We highly recommend it.

Get into it! Yes, Opal isn’t cheap but when you’ve been home for a year, you need something to look forward to. At 4:30 p.m. party lights, party music and how party ice automatically turn on to let me know it’s happy hour. Also, we unplugged opal to repaint the backsplash and it emailed me! It said it had been offline for 48 hours and to come check on it! It also provided me contact information if I had technical issues. If the robots are coming and they are like this, sign me up!

I got this ice maker about 2 weeks ago after being tired of my refrigerator ice maker always freezing up. I am loving this! Makes delicious ice. I use the water from my RO system and the ice is great. Good production. I don’t find it loud. It’s just what I needed!!!

Great ice maker. Wonderful nugget ice anytime I want it. A little noises than I’d like, but the benefit of ice is worth it. Gone are tgd days of ice trays for us. I have the reservoir which is a must in my opinion. Only negative I’d say is noise and water drippings every time I open to get ice…..but we’ll worth it.

Great ice maker. I was looking for a countertop ice maker for my cottage because our water is not drinkable. Yes the ice marker is a little bigger and pricey then others but it’s worth it!! Makes great ice. It does stick together if you put it directly i. The freezer ice bucket. If you put it in a gallon ziplock bag it keeps well. Highly recommend!!
