We have been pleasantly surprised at how well this ice maker works and how easy it is to use. The ice maker on our refrigerator went out and we were looking for a nice unit that would last us until it was time to get a new refrigerator. But we might be in trouble! We love the nugget ice this unit makes and it is very convenient to use. We dump some in the freezer so we always have some on hand but the fresh ice right out of the unit is the best. I'm sure you could use tap water but we pour water from our Brita pitcher into the tank. It has worked excellent and the ice tastes fantastic! Highly recommend!

If you love nugget ice- you will be obsessed with this machine. It makes ice very quickly and the ice stays frozen for a good amount of time. My only complaint is that the machine is loud (sounds like I’m making popcorn in the microwave) but I have honestly gotten used to it. I definitely recommend this to ice lovers out there.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a nice countertop ice maker for the parties or the family who loves to make a drink or chewing ice. It makes a nice texture of ice and also tastes good which I and my family love to chew it. it is smaller in comparison or traditional ice size. it has a nice design that looks good in the kitchen with stunning stainless steel with gray color. It has led which is looks good in the night time. I noticed that it make a louder noise when making the ice which feels annoying when it is making ice in the night time. I also had some issues with syncing the application. it disconnects frequently. This is defiantly helpful in summer to make lots of drinks. I do not use my refrigerator ice maker after using this. The application also has lots of features like scheduling and all which makes it easier to maintain it.

We LOVE our new GE Opal 2.0 Ice Maker!! It works as advertised and produces “the good ice”! It is wonderful as a portable i e maker, kinda wish there was an option to run a water line to it. But well worth the money! Still does “drip” and where we have it installed - we can’t use the drip tray. But not a huge deal for us.

This unit works way better than the 1.0 version. The last one was extremely noisy and had so many issues. We now only use distilled water and haven’t had any issues other that air bubbles in the line after water gets too low. We use a turkey baster syringe-filled with water and shoot into the fill hole. Works amazing and don’t know what we would do without it. Our Profile fridge has an extremely small ice bin so we use to run out like crazy.

I've toyed with the idea of buying an ice maker for awhile mainly because I grew tired of the endless trips to the sink to fill our ice trays and mopping up the water that I spill onto the floor when transporting the trays to the freezer. Anyways, I opted for this model because of the nugget size ice that it makes. Ironically, I don't enjoy drinking water, but I love to chew on ice so to reduce the damage to my teeth I opted for this model. It is pricey, but so far we all love it. As soon as I unpacked it, and ran x2 cleaning cycles, I started making ice. The only negative aspect of this ice maker is it drips water everytime you open the tray. They provide a drip tray which is nice, but for the money, you would think their engineers could figure out how to reclaim the water rather then it just drip onto the tray. Otherwise, it's great ice maker.

This thing was great for a few months, but like a ton of others, mine stopped working consistently after a year (just after the warranty expired) and now completely stopped working about 18 months in. Avoid this ice maker. Don’t just take my word for it, do a quick Reddit search and see what I mean. If i had a Time Machine, the third thing I’d do is March this broken down piece of junk into First Build and find the lead engineer responsible for this atrocity. I’d like him or her to walk me through each piece from the condenser coils that seem to maintain surface of the sun temps, to the dissipator wings behind the fan that appear to have melted, right down to the silly water tank that doesn’t seem to ever empty because it can’t get any air. I’d want to know what was going on the day they signed off on this design. Was it Thunder Day? Did the engineers have somewhere important they’d rather be? Guess we will never know. Stay away from this appliance unless you want to dedicate days to trying to fix this thing, inevitably ending in disappointment, regret, and one of the worlds largest paperweights. Buyer beware? No, buyer run like your rear end is on fire.

Very pleased with capacity, speed and most importantly taste of the ice! We use a lot of ice for a small family and neither our old countertop machine nor our refrigerator machine (when it worked) could keep up with this model. The side tank makes a great machine even better!

This was on my wish list for years and I was totally surprised to open this Christmas! It is amazing and lives up to the hype. Just like Sonic and Chick-fil-a ice only at home and on demand. Excellent design. Does add white noise to my kitchen but that’s ok with me, some might think it’s loud for a small appliance.

I love the options my ice maker 2.0 has and the chewable ice. I've had my icemaker going on 4 months now. 2-weeks ago I started having problems after cleaning/descaling it. The resevoir is full yet it keeps saying add ice. I read every GE article and the manual, tried all the suggestions and it still says "Add Water". I'm very frustrated. Will call support number.
