The setup, fit under a standard cabinet, and operation is as about as simple as it gets!! It's ability to replenish enough ice is incredible! I would buy it again for sure. If there were any negatives I would say this: 1. When the room is quite the sound is very noticeable. Not annoying but noticeable. 2. Cleaning - It is not hard to clean but it is very time consuming.

This is not just an ice maker, but the perfect ice maker. Small, soft chewable pellets that are made as fast as you can use them. I have never been able to make ice as fast as my family can use it and now I can. Not cheap and a bit bulky on the counter.... but it’s all worth it!

Currently I own an Opal Ice Maker Model#OPAL01GEPKT. I believe we bought it in early 2019. The machine has always performed to my expectations. There were times in the beginning that I had issues but read the manual and the GE online website for additional tips. #1 Clean the machine with 1 teaspoon bleach mixed with 5 cups of water and rinse at least three times every seven days. It is not a big deal and have learned to add it to our kitchen clean up after dinner. #2 Every two months I would run white vinegar through the cleaning cycle and keep it in the machine for at least 18 hours then drain and run clean water through at least 3 times. This sound like a pain but understand what water can do to the system even though we use distilled water only. Calcium still has a way of getting in the system. #3 Keep vents open and un obstructed on both sides allowing for the coil to suck in air for cooling similar to what an air conditioner return air does in your house. #4 I found it very helpful to vacuum the vent which houses the coil and sometimes I would spray a can of condensed air into the vent to keep the coils clear. As of this week, we started hearing a loud rattling. After inspecting the machine I realized it was the fan motor that cools the coil. It eventually stopped working. Since the machine is close to 4 years old I decided rather than try to fix it if even possible due to age, we purchased a new model. I am in real estate management and understand the intricacies to refrigerated equipment and know that most sealed systems cannot be fixed. We feel that we got our money’s worth out of the ice maker and was satisfied enough to purchase a new one. However with anything that has water running through it, you still have to perform maintenance. I hope this review will help others in deciding if the Opal Ice Maker is worth the purchase which we feel it is.

Purchased the 2.0 after our first model (which we replaced once through warranty) died just days after our 1 year warranty ended. The new location of the fan in the back is nice, but it sure seems more noisy than our first model and lets out an occasional “horrifying” scream. Also a little disappointed with the smaller side tank vs. the first. Love the ice, but was sure to buy the extended 5 year warranty.

I use my GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker every single day, and it’s been one of my favorite kitchen additions. It was super easy to set up right out of the box, and it fits perfectly on my countertop without taking up too much space. The ice capacity is great—it holds plenty throughout the day—and it’s surprisingly quiet while running. I love that I can schedule it from my phone so the ice is ready for my morning iced coffee, which has seriously been taken to the next level! It’s easy to clean, convenient to use, and honestly just makes life better. Highly recommend for any iced drink lover!

My friend had one and him/his family use it constantly. I decided to get one and wasted my time with two units. The first unit had a large screeching/grinding sounds (1.5 weeks after install) when the unit would first begin to make ice. The second unit would continuously cycle through making ice/defrosting but never made a nugget of ice

So far it has been flawless. There is a bit more maintenance such as cleaning once a week. It’s not hard at all once you get it down. Takes about 20 min to complete. Produces perfect ice and fairly quick. I would buy another in heartbeat. It is a bit pricy but if it last a long time like the other profile series I’ve had I’m good.

Huge fan of nugget ice and this unit satisfies the craving! Didn't think I would find myself using this as much as I currently am (with almost every beverage, daily), but we've had this for one month and the novelty does not wear off. We have this set up in our kitchen for now and it takes up a lot of counter space, but it is worth it. Some other reviews also comment on the sound while making ice - I don't find it distracting or overly noisy. Overall, excellent product!

This is our 2nd Opal 2.0 machine. This is a must have appliance in our household and gets a lot of use. It’s works as advertised- makes ice very quickly and is easy to operate, BUT it can be laborious to maintain. You HAVE to clean and descale regularly or else you will be disappointed with it. It took me a year to realize this with my first one which lasted about 3 years. I think would have lasted longer had I followed instructions from the start. I would give it 5 stars if upkeep was easier.

It never occurred to me to get one of these until I purchased one for my office. I liked it so much, I got one for home. Absolutely love it. Wish I had not waited. The only thing I would caution about is that it does make noise. So would not want it on the countertop of our kitchen which is part of a large open floor plan with the living room.
