Makes more than enough ice for our family of five. Nugget ice is awesome! The side tank feature is very nice. The bin does leak when tilted open, so we have to keep a towel in front of the ice maker. The wifi and app aren’t very useful because it does not stay connected. We haven’t been using it for very long, so I can’t comment on the longevity of the product.

I was initially quite excited about this icemaker due to the many positive reviews across the web. However, I am now on my third machine due to the short life of each unit. These machines have consistently stopped working within a year. I follow the directions for cleaning, etc. I use the machine lightly and in spite of this, they all have stopped making ice within a year. The reason why I continue to replace them is because I purchase the extended warranty each time. For the price of this unit, this is unacceptable. There is clearly something wrong with the build of this machine.

I purchased this opal when my ice maker in the fridge broke down and it produced enough ice for a family of 5. My wife and I love chewing on the small nuggets it makes. We also use this to make smoothies which doesn’t put a strain on the blender and it comes out really good.

Great little ice maker. Makes nice small crunchy ice and the light inside makes for a cool glow at night. Love that it keeps the ice after making it and recycles any lost water due to melting. Had a slightly difficult time setting up the connection to WiFi, but the help line was very easy to talk to and responsive.

We love how quick and great the ice maker is ~ however a week after buying it, it started making a loud screeching sound heard all throughout the house that no matter how much we tried to follow the directions and fix, it always started up again. Literally a week after buying, and now that we are getting it replaced it will be with a refurbished one. So went from a brand new one, to a replacement refurbished one :/

After 10.5 months, consistent issues started—it wouldn’t produce ice, received add water errors. We have watched endless tutorials for trouble shooting, only ever used distilled water in it, and ran the clean and disinfect cycles monthly (every 3-4 weeks) as directed by the manual. Not worth the money

I have wanted this ice maker for a while. When I saw that Opal 2.0 has wifi I immediately bought it. The app is so convenient and easy to connect. The side water reservoir is so handy. This ice is hands down the best ice I’ve ever tried, and I am an ice snob. 10/10 would recommend to EVERYONE!

I was super excited that my husband let us get an ice machine because of the cost. After about a month, I feel it has paid off. No more weekly pickups of a bag or two of pebble ice from our local fast food drive-thru, or settling for the crushed ice (more so still big chunks of ice) from the fridge, because I have it at home. You get a nice amount within the first 20 minutes, it’s quiet, and so satisfying. Dislike: Cleaning Process.

I looked everywhere for a machine that made this restaurant type of ice. I saw Opal back when it was a startup but it was too expensive for me and the reviews weren’t great. Now that GE took over and seem to have worked out the bugs, the ratings have improved. It makes a lot of ice and is perfect for those of us who snack on it.

We’ve had our ice maker 3 months and it already died, started emitting a weird burnt metal / plastic smell, I think essentially the intake fan failed or the motor burned out. The ice making works fine and no issues with sound (I think it’s pretty quiet) . This machine makes the best ice but I’m bummed that the machine gave out so quickly especially when I babied it, cleaned it on schedule and followed all instructions incl using only distilled water. A lot of hassle and expense for something just to die on me.
