Smart lights, smart speaker, smart ice machine?!

Get into it! Yes, Opal isn't cheap but when you've been home for a year, you need something to look forward to. At 4:30 p.m. party lights, party music and how party ice automatically turn on to let me know it's happy hour. Also, we unplugged opal to repaint the backsplash and it emailed me! It said it had been offline for 48 hours and to come check on it! It also provided me contact information if I had technical issues. If the robots are coming and they are like this, sign me up!

Amazing ice- unreliable design

I love the ice that this produces and the ease of use, but unfortunately I am already on my second one. The first only lasted 6 months before it totally stopped cooling. The warranty process took months and they sent a refurbished unit. So far so good on the second one- but my expectations for longevity are low.

Well worth the investment

This is probably the best invest for inside my home that we have made. I'm an ice eater and crushed is what I need. We constantly run out but not anymore. You would think that it would take forever for this little machine to make ice it absolutely does NOT. Within an hour maybe 2 I go from an empty container to full. The tank is a must and it lasts a while. I might refill it every other day or so. I've never been a fan of GE products but this might sway me over to more GE products. Even bigger benefit is the app. I don't have to be home to turn it on.

Great product - There are some flaws

I love the ice it makes, and it takes about 2 hours or so to make a good amount of ice. The ice maker is for a family of 2, plenty of ice and never ran out of ice between 2 people, even when we use large 40oz containers. There are a few flaws, cleaning is not that easy. I wish the cleaning is easier or have less things to clean. The second is, you can't connect a water line to this. For something that I need to refill twice a week, I'm willing to split off the fridge line to this ice maker. Especially, I don't use the fridge to make ice any more. The noise is a bit annoying if you're in the same room or the next. But it's fine. Last gripe about this, water drips once you open door to get ice out. The tray it comes with does catches it. With the flaws, it's still a very good ice maker. One thing you should consider is to use filtered water and not use tap water. Tap water (depending where you live), it could make you clean this more often. Leaving hard water in the lines are very hard to clean. I don't use the GE filter because it didn't seem like it would be as good as my own water filter. The price is a bit high for a "ice maker" but if you like the nugget ice, or like chomping on ice and you got the money for it. This one is legit.

It's Alright

Produces ice, but runs almost 24hrs a day and sounds just a bit quieter than an ice cream maker. Our kitchen is never quiet anymore. Ice is inconsistently melted/refrozen in chunks or expected pellet ice. And 3 days after I plugged it in, the app is told me it needs to be descaled. Family likes the pellet ice, but I expected a lot more given the price.

Envy of the Neighborhood

I can't match the in-depth reviews others have posted, but did want to mention one “con” that I didn't see mentioned a lot. This machine is a bit noisy. My wife complained about it endlessly the first few days, but after the ice bin is full (and it doesn't need to make any ice) the machine is silent. She does love the ice and uses it all the time, so it was still a worthwhile purchase. But I wanted to post this info in case it's going on the counter in your normally quiet kitchen (like mine) so you know what to expect.

Great if it works, but not worth the cost

After 10.5 months, consistent issues started—it wouldn't produce ice, received add water errors. We have watched endless tutorials for trouble shooting, only ever used distilled water in it, and ran the clean and disinfect cycles monthly (every 3-4 weeks) as directed by the manual. Not worth the money

Love nugget Ice!

I was so excited to purchase this ice maker. Works just as advertised. I highly recommend to add on the reservoir tank so you don't have to refill the water as much. I did have one issue where the reservoir wasn't drawing the water into the machine but it once I adjusted the water line hose to be more horizontal (as the troubleshooting guide recommended) it began working just fine again. If you are a fan of the nugget ice, you need this machine!

So Much Ice!

I bought this ice maker for my dad for Father's Day because the built in ice maker in his refrigerator couldn't keep up. He LOVES it! I've never seen the guy drink so much water. The best part is that my kids can use it too. The setup was easy and it is low maintenance. The only downside is that it isn't insulated at all so you have to run it all the time. The ice is slowly melting m, draining through the bottom of the tray into the water reservoir, and remaking fresh. So you can't make a batch and then turn the ice making feature off or all the ice will melt and you have to start over.

GE Opal Ice Machine

We have tried 6 GE Opal ice machines and they have all quit around one year. The one we have now just quit at 7 months!! We kept trying in hopes they improved the machines but obviously that is not the case. Very frustrated and will not be buying anymore!!
