Lovely ice machine

I thought I wouldn't need an ice maker, but here we are. I've had this machine for the past few weeks now and it has been great for me and cooling down here in the Southern heat! I was getting tired having to fill ice trays and storage buckets with water and ice over and over again so I decided to splurge on this. This machine makes ice so quickly and that lasts so long! It's really made my beverages outside of just water a lot more enjoyable. It's aided by an app if you decide to use it which allows you to schedule ice making which is neat. I do wish the lighting inside was a bit better to see if the machine is dirty or if the bulb was changed to something that could kill bacteria.

Noisy, But it Gets the Job Done

I have been really enjoying the ice maker. Two things annoy me… the noise and the wifi connection. You can hear a constant buzz when making ice and every week or so when using the app it loses its connection from the cloud and you have to remove it and re-register it. It's still better than running to Chic-Fil-A or Sonic for good ice.

Excellent Ice. Be sure to clean regularly

I bought our Opal Nugget Ice Machine 5 years ago when it was a new product and sold only by Opal/First Build. We LOVE the ice our machine makes and we like the machine a lot. We use it ALL THE TIME. We learned that It is very important to descale the machine regularly using an ice machine descaler. Ours started squealing which was because there was mineral deposit in the machine. If descaled and cleaned regularly (every 1 to 6 months depending on the mineral content of your water) it works fine. It is very easy to do. Since ours is one of the first (not the 2.0) it does not have a side water tank. I wish it could be attached to a water source so I wouldn't have to refill it all the time (at least once daily). If they made one that did I'd buy it!

Worked perfectly right out of the box. Crunchy ice

Made a full bin of fresh crunchy ice right out of the box. The Manuel was easy to follow and we had crunchy ice within 30 minutes out of the box. One of the absolute best purchases I have made recently. Well made and easy to follow directions. Thanx GE

Don't fix ice disp. on your refrigerator-buy this!

We were so tired of the ice maker on our refrigerator getting jammed and needing repair so we bought this ice maker. We love the ice that it makes and it is was cheaper than one call to the appliance repair man. Great quality, easy to use, and economical for the amount of use it gets.

Great Ice

This is my second GE nugget ice maker. My previous one lasted about 3 years. Admittedly I did not keep up with the maintenance. Did I want to spend this much on an ice maker, no. Is my family hooked on this ice? Yes. I will be cleaning and descaling this one regularly to protect the investment.

Makes great nugget ice in very little time!

We ordered our Opal 2.0 online. It arrived with seriously sturdy packing and in pristine condition. We had it up and running in about thirty minutes including initial cleaning. Directions were clear and setup could not have been easier. Within another half an hour, we already had a cupful of ice. The ice seems slightly denser than popular restaurant ice but, surprisingly, I think I prefer it. It holds up longer in soda, so less watering down, but still has that satisfying soft crunch. We could not be happier with it. If you are on the fence about this machine, just do it! It is pricey, but compared to it's commercial counterparts, this is a huge bargain.

WOW!!!

I bought this ice maker about 6 months ago it is great I love it. the only thing about it is the limit switch that tells it when the ice maker is full doesn't work too good, when the ice starts melting it doesn't come back on you have to open it and move the ice and then shut it again then it starts working but other than that it's wonderful I love it!

Over exceeded all expectations

I purchased the Opal 2 w/ side tank in Oct ‘21 for my house-warming party at my new Penthouse. Surprisingly, it was the hit of the party; none of my guests had ever seen one that makes the “nuggets”before. I'm approaching 3 full years since my purchase… it has been making ice “everyday” without any issues! I've strongly recommended this product to my family and friends… six of them have purchased their own. Lastly, this product is Golden-Retriever “Approved”… my Goldens love the nuggets!

Great ice, side tank fails to work sometimes

The ice from this product is great. However, it frequently says "add water" when the side tank is full. (The hose is level per the manual, and not kinked. May be small air bubbles in the line. Sometimes jostling the whole unit "fixes" things temporarily.) The documentation is unclear in many spots. I'm been a software engineer for three decades, and am not easily confused. I doubt anyone at GE has watched a user try to set up the machine while following the manual.
