Ice like I like it

Had one before. Lasted four and a half years of constant use. Turned off my refrigerator ice maker since I prefer the chewable ice. Also, since ice makers are the first things that go bad on refrigerators , might as well get ice like you like it.

Great buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Be sure to get the xl side tank. I thought from other reviews it was going to be very loud however it is much quieter than expected. Was a little pricey but well worth it for me

Never worked

This never worked. While trying to set it up and use the cleaning cycle I got the dreaded “add water” message. Look this up. It is a well known thing for this machine. I tried different amounts of water, different locations to make sure the machine was level, etc. No luck. It never made a single cube. Listen to other reviewers when they say this thing is a waste of money!

This item is 16.25

I have had the original GE Opal in my home for almost four years. I ordered the Opal 2.0 because it is advertised as 14.75 tall, and it should fit under my cabinets on my countertop. The 2.0 is actually 16.25 tall and will not fit on my countertop by a half inch. I am incredibly disappointed.

Not sure regular cleaning works

I thought it was the most amazing product Id ever owned until the warranty was up and I had to take it apart and clean it. Id been using vinegar and bleach alternately but it would show mold almost immediately so I finally took it apart and GROSS doesnt even come close! It was so bad on the inside...bleach didnt help!

Biofilm

I have had this product for over 3 years and have been religious about cleaning. Unfortunately these units still have biofilm build up and there is no way to complete clean the unit without taking it completely apart and dedicating 3+ hours to cleaning. When you use the clean cycle, the water does not get to all the places and biofilm will build up. This does not have a clean in place feature and the UV light doesn't work. Do Not Buy!

Great but needs work.

I would give it five stars because of the quality and amount of ice it makes except the design of the machine where the buttons are is poorly designed. Also the cleaning button constantly flashes. With the GE app there is no way reset it after descale it. Ice is great, design needs improvement.

Worth it

Had a different brand nugget ice maker for a few years and it suddenly stopped working recently. It was also really loud when you first turned it on. The Opal ice maker is so much nicer, faster, and prettier. It also has a separate filter you change out and has the app that goes with it. It's not as heavy as the other one (which matters because I have to move mine closer to the sink to clean) and easier to clean. Yea it cost more but worth it. You get what you pay for. Chefs kiss.

The best

Picked one up at good will still had the plastic protector on the cord 15 dollars. Never used, soaked it in vinegar and used a cleaning tablet. Then I had to purchase a side water container. Run the water I use thru a britta. Also got a filter for it. Runs like a champ love the ice.

GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker W/ Side Tank

Great machine for quick ice. Quiet machine. Easy to put together. You don't need the filter as I was told from GE when I called to ask why it didn't come with a filter. My water is already filtered. Wish the ice pieces were a bit bigger though. They melt quickly so stock up if possible. If you put some in a ziplock bag, they will form to a block but easily able to break it up & have some chunks. The side tank works great. No complaints so far & I've had it for 2 weeks. Seems like a good machine & my mother just loves it as well.
