Bought this for my wife for Christmas. Installed it dec28th, 2020. Fast forward 3 weeks and now everyday it has a horrid loud whining/squeaky sound that last for 15-30 minutes. Quits for a couple of hours then starts back at it again. I have tried to call the numbers given for tech support and had to wait on forever hold twice. Then the last time I called I got hung up on. Hopefully someone reads this and actually pays attention. I will be calling until I get this product fixed/returned or replaced.

Very very unhappy with this product. Four of our family households own this ge nugget ice machine and two have broken. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone especially for the price! So disappointing that ge can't figure this product out.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the first time owning a counter top ice maker unit. This GE Profile ice maker seems to be a really great ice maker!! Once you get it out of the box , you have all you need to set it up which also includes the instruction manual. A drip tray and scoop are also included. Follow the instruction to clean it before using it. This is self cleaning. Put it in self clean mode and it will go through the whole system with water to make sure all is cleaned properly. When it finishes the cleaning cycle, Unplug the unit, detach the hose and let drain in the sink. Its just that easy. Simple to operate yet very modern looking. It has some heft to it. No sliding around on the counter. Very stable. No raised buttons to work with. Light pressure touches gets it going. This unit comes is almost 17 inches in height so be sure you have the height room before making the purchase. Once set up, it starts to make ice pellets within 7-10 minutes which is remarkably fast! After the first drop of ice pellets, it continues do so every few seconds with another drop of pellets. I equate the size of the ice to the size of a gum drop. You can chew the ice easily. This would be amazing to use for a party when serving drinks without having to worry about running out of ice as it is continuously making ice with a side tank to help with volume if needed and great to have for everyday usage as well. This has a home on my counter top just like my tea kettle and coffee maker and is being used daily to keep our drinks cold in these hot Summer months!! BTW, this is also a "smart" appliance and allows for app connectivity . This feature is not something that I would personally use BUT it's available for those who like to operate and control appliances via smart phones.

This ice maker works when it does. Lasted me 2 maybe 3 years before failing. Absolutely not worth the money. Save your money and buy something cheaper and it will most likely last longer than this junk. Ended up throwing this 700 dollar ice maker in the dumpster.

My husband and I share the opal ice machine. I am always getting ice with my drinks now because I love the perfect nuggets. They are soft and keep drinks very cold. If you are having a crowd, make ice ahead of time, save it and keep making it. The machine makes ice quickly and can keep up with refills. It just isn't enough ice for the first round of drinks. Simply make it ahead. The machine is fast.

we absolutely love our opal 2.0 nugget machine and do our regular cleanings. It is a little cumbersome to clean very difficult to find replacement parts even through GE. ours has been down for the last month because I cannot find a replacement ice spin or ice spin warped because my daughter put it in the dishwasher and it melted so I found an extra side bin, but I cannot find a replaceable ice tray holder anywhere any suggestions on how we can replace that? what do I need to do?

This is a awesome product. I love crushed ice and most of the ice machine I looked at had large cubes. These are like SONIC ice. The only fall back is it is not a freezer. You must take it out when it is done and put it in your freezer But I love ❤️ this product.

My brother bought one last year and it is great. Works well. I bought one on his recommendation and it is the “new and improved “ model. But, it is not as good. I had to return the first 2. This is my third try. The main problem is the defrosting. It defrosts when it does not need to do so. I turned it off last night. Sat for 10 hours. I turned it on this morning and it started making ice. After it's first dump, it started defrosting. It has been on 4 hours now and the bin is not half full and it has defrosted at least twice. Do not buy. I am going to give this unit a few more days then return. The ice is great! Taste great and is soft and easy to chew. I love the ice - hate the units inability to function. GE should “recall” them and fix the defrosting problem. Also, on defrost, the unit sometimes squeaks really loud. Like a baby crying. That loud!!

While at first we loved this ice maker, it is perpetually moldy at the bottom. We clean it out at least weekly (with bleach!) & only put Brita filtered water in the reservoir. It is incredibly frustrating as the ice holder always has mold at the bottom. We even took it apart and clean the insides and replaced tubing. It is not easy to clean and it doesn't seem like considerations for cleaning were ever acknowledged in the manufacturing of this product. No way others don't have the same issue and we regret this purchase.
